Synopsis
Les événements du film se passent dans la Tunisie des années 1930, plus précisément de 1924 à 1934. Ils relatent l'histoire de trois mythes de l'histoire tunisienne : Tahar Haddad, l'un des précurseurs des droits de l'homme, de la liberté et de l'émancipation de la femme tunisienne, Mohamed Ali El Hammi, fondateur du premier mouvement syndical tunisien et Abou el Kacem Chebbi, considéré comme le réformateur de la poésie tunisienne. Dans un contexte politique très agité, avec un peuple en lutte pour l'indépendance, le film relate une confrontation entre des esprits réformateurs et une société conservatrice rattachée aux traditions.Actors

Mariam, 21 ans, se rend à une soirée étudiante à Tunis. Sympathisant avec un garçon, Youssef, elle sort se balader avec lui sur la plage. Trois policiers les voient et deux d'entre eux la violent dans leur voiture pendant que le dernier s'éloigne avec Youssef. Traumatisée et terrorisée, elle se rend avec Youssef à l’hôpital local, où le personnel refuse de lui prodiguer un certificat attestant qu’elle a subi un viol et l’oblige à se rendre au poste de police. Les policiers, corrompus, vont tout faire pour enterrer l'affaire, alors que les violeurs se trouvent dans le même bâtiment que leur victime.

Beginning after the First Siege of Vienna the century before, the film brings viewers through the various conflicts between European Christianity and Turkish Islam which led up to the events of September 11, 1683 and the Battle of Vienna. It shows the alleged circumstances of the 2nd siege of Vienna and the assault of Ottoman Turks led by Kara Mustafa (Enrico Lo Verso) against the Habsburg monarchy. The assault was stopped by King Jan III Sobieski (Jerzy Skolimowski), and curtailed Turkish expansion into European Christendom.

The film begins where the previous film, The Emigrants ended, with Karl Oskar bringing Kristina and their three small children, Johan, Marta and Harald, along with Karl Oskar's brother Robert, Robert's friend Arvid, through the woods to the land he claimed at Lake Ki Chi Saga. Upon their arrival, Karl Oskar leads them to a small shanty he found on the land, telling them it will provide them shelter until he can build them a farmhouse, and he points out to Kristina how fertile the topsoil is. With three small children and Kristina expecting another child, Karl Oskar pours all their resources into building them a house before winter arrives. He begins clearing the land of the tall pine trees, and with the help of Robert, Arvid and some of their Swedish neighbors, construct for them a small farmhouse.

Set in the late 18th century, the story follows the life of Georgiana Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire. The idea is that Bess can, since she already has three sons, of whom the Duke is very fond, treating them as if they were his own.
