Synopsis
Lors de l'été 1941, Jeff Seabrook, un correspondant de guerre basé à Lisbonne, refuse la direction du bureau de Berlin, car cela fait deux ans qu'il est parti de chez lui et il espère ainsi passer plus de temps avec sa femme. À New York, Julia, un violoniste de concert qui fait partie d'un orchestre uniquement féminin, a du mal à se concentrer sur son travail car elle a engagé une procédure de divorce et craint d'annoncer la nouvelle à Jeff. Ce dernier apprend que Julia, lasse de ses longues absences et de ses promesses non tenues, est courtisée par deux hommes, le manager de l'orchestre David Torrance et le critique musical Philip Barrows. Le patron de Jeff, Johnny Girard, le convainc que la meilleure manière de regagner l'amour de Julia est de faire semblant d'accepter le divorce, et pour prouver son accord Jeff annonce à Julia qu'il va l'aider à sélectionner son successeur.Actors

The film tells the story of a mixed group of Army nurses stationed in Bataan during World War II. At the beginning of the film, the head nurse, Lt. Mary Smith (Margaret Sullavan) begs her superior, Capt. Alice Marsh (Fay Bainter) for more nurses to help deal with the excessive workload, but instead of professional nurses, she is assigned a group of civilians from various backgrounds. They lack experience and require training and find it difficult to settle in. Pat Conlin (Ann Sothern) rebels against Lt. Smith's strict nature, but the group begin to reveal stories from their past and become better acquainted. They also meet a male officer, Lt. Holt (Allan Byron), and Pat becomes infatuated with him, leading to jealousy between her and Lt. Smith who refuses to explain why she is offended by Pat's attention to him. During an air-raid one of the volunteers, Sue West (Dorothy Morris), is separated from the group, and some of the women, including her sister Andra (Heather Angel) search for her. After three days she is found alive, having spent the time trapped in a hut with the corpses of several soldiers who were killed during the attack.

Comme elle n'a nulle part où aller, elle demande à Malcolm de l'aider à retrouver son fiancé. Il est sur le point de la jeter dehors mais, quand Vivian arrive, il lui dit qu'il est avec Nancy. Habitant chez Malcolm, Nancy prend une part de plus en plus importante dans la vie de ce dernier et dans celle de Robert. Malcolm commence à tomber amoureux d'elle, de même que Robert. Il le nie mais quand George réapparaît et réclame Nancy, il se bat avec lui. Malcolm finit par admettre qu'il l'aime et la demande en mariage. Peu après le mariage, Nancy et Malcolm s'embarquent pour l'Europe, mais elle réalise soudain qu'elle a oublié ses gants à terre, Malcolm court pour les retrouver mais ne peut revenir à temps au quai et voit le bateau s'éloigner.

The beautiful Princess Veronica (Hedy Lamarr) travels to New York City to find the American newspaper columnist she fell in love with six years earlier.
