Add to a movie listTongpan (Thai: ทองปาน) is a 1977 Thai 16 mm black-and-white docudrama that re-creates a seminar that took place in Northeast Thailand in 1975 to discuss the proposed Pa-Mong Dam on the Mekong. Interwoven are sequences depicting a poor farmer, Tongpan, who had lost his land to another dam some years before, and his struggles to make ends meet. Because of the film's socialist message and suspected communist sympathies of the filmmakers, it was banned by the Thai government. The 63-minute film was released on VCD in Thailand in 2006.
Synopsis
It is just after 1973 democracy movement and university students from Bangkok are going to rural Thailand to talk to farmers about their cause. Among the farmers the students meet is Tongpan, a father of two children with a wife, eaking out a living on rented farmland.Comments

Le film se déroule dans l'île de São Tomé à la fin des années 1990. Une vieille femme mourante appelle son fils qui vit au loin. Son cri prend la forme concrète d'un énorme fruit plus haut qu'un homme, qui vient tomber du ciel devant la hutte du fils. Celui-ci comprend aussitôt : "Ma m'appelle !" Il nomme le fruit Früchtchen (« petit fruit »). Le Früchtchen commence à rouler et guide l'enfant à travers toute l'île, en direction de la case de Ma. Le film est à la fois un drame, un road movie haut en couleurs avec des moments humoristiques, et un documentaire sur l'île, ses habitants et sa culture (une sorte de docu-fiction).

The film begins by showing Antonio López García as a very meticulous painter. He drives in pegs to mark his stance, hangs a weight and uses strings to determine the symmetry and center of his painting. His first attempt starts out peacefully but he soon encounters problems due to the weather and the size of his canvas. As García and a friend discuss Michelangelo's The Last Judgement, painted when Michelangelo was in his 60s, which García is fast approaching, the film's subject takes shape as the relationship between the artist's work and his own mortality. García's future attempts are much more rushed and frantic as he struggles to compete with the weather, the fleeting sun and the rotting and weighed down fruit in maintaining his vision.
