Synopsis
Première partie Jan Berger est un jeune météorologue qui a passé quatre ans à étudier les tornades dans l'Oklahoma et revient à Berlin. Après son atterrissage à l'aéroport, une canicule anormale domine la ville. Le retour à la réalité le rattrape. La relation avec son père, le professeur Jürgen Berger, le grand météorologue de la station de Berlin-Brandebourg, est toujours brouillée. L'ancien amour de Jan, la jeune docteur Eva Keil, est maintenant avec Bruno Meindorf qui travaille avec le père de Jan. Jan vit d'abord avec Sophie, sa sœur aveugle, qui a une liaison avec Karl Zimmer de la chaîne d'infos N24. Jan trouve dans la compagnie d'assurances Globcare un emploi qui a en partie à voir avec sa recherche sur les tornades. À 280 km à l'ouest de Berlin, se produit une tornade avec des chutes de grêle qu'aucun spécialiste n'avait prévue. Jan se rend sur le site de cette tornade et prévoit le premier la menace de tornades sur la capitale, ce qu'aucun météorologue ne confirme. Seul Andreas Schütte, le chef des pompiers de Berlin, s'intéresse à la thèse de Jan. Mais les moyens politiques et financiers ne suivent pas pour créer un système de prévention qui n'existe pas à Berlin. Bruno donne régulièrement des données du service météorologique à Jan à l'insu de son père. C'est alors que se produisent les premières tempêtes de grêle. Bruno a une rencontre avec Wittenberg, membre du Sénat de Berlin, à laquelle participent Jan et Jürgen Berger. Mais l'élu rejette la théorie de Jan que rien ne prouve et toutes les mesures de protection civile. Avec l'aide de Bruno, Jan emprunte sans le consentement du professeur Berger un véhicule fait pour la recherche, dans lequel monte Eva. Ils constatent la formation d'un orage à proximité de Berlin. Une tornade se produit et se dirige vers le véhicule de recherche.Actors

Filmed in black-and-white with a running time of just under 50 minutes, The War Game depicts the prelude to and the immediate weeks of the aftermath to a Soviet nuclear attack against Britain. A Chinese invasion of South Vietnam starts the war; tensions escalate when the United States authorises tactical nuclear warfare against the Chinese. Although Soviet and East German forces threaten to invade West Berlin if the US does not withdraw that decision, the US does not acquiesce to communist demands and the invasion takes place; two US Army divisions attempt to fight their way into Berlin to counter this, but the Russian and East German forces overwhelm them in conventional battle. In order to turn the tide, the US president authorises the NATO commanders to use their tactical nuclear weapons, and they soon do so. An escalating nuclear war results, during which larger Russian strategic IRBMs are launched at Britain. The film remarks that many Soviet missiles were, at the time, believed to be liquid-fuelled and stored above ground, making them vulnerable to attack, and hypothesises that in any nuclear crisis, the USSR would be obliged to fire all of them as early as possible in order to avoid their destruction by counter-attack, hence the rapid progression from tactical to strategic nuclear exchange.

The film begins in Leadville, Colorado. Trevor and his girlfriend, Nina, are in an abandoned building having a romantic encounter. They then head back to their respective parents' homes. They see a long line of cars at a military roadblock sealing off the city. An angry man yells at the officers because his child is sick and needs medical care. There has been an outbreak and medical help is needed throughout town. They are introduced to Captain Rhodes and Corporal Sarah Cross. Soon after, privates Bud Crain and Salazar show up and Bud immediately falls in love with Corporal Cross. Cross takes Bud to go with her while she visits her sick mother. When she arrives, Sarah talks to her brother (Trevor) and checks in on her mother. She then goes to see Trevor's friend, Kyle, after she learns his symptoms are similar to her mother's.

Following a nuclear holocaust, the world has become a desert wasteland and civilization has collapsed. Max Rockatansky, a survivor, is captured by the War Boys, the army of the tyrannical Immortan Joe, and taken to Joe's Citadel. Designated a universal blood donor, Max is imprisoned and used as a "blood bag" for a sick War Boy called Nux. Meanwhile, Imperator Furiosa, one of Joe's lieutenants, is sent in her armored truck, the "War Rig", to collect gasoline. When she drives off-route, Joe realizes that his five wives—women selected for breeding—are missing. The planet Krypton faces imminent destruction due to its unstable core; the result of depleting Krypton's natural resources. In 2013, Earth's coastal cities come under attack from Kaijus, colossal beasts that periodically emerge from a dimensional portal on the Pacific Ocean floor called "The Breach." To fight them, the Pacific Rim nations build the Jaegers, equally colossal humanoid war machines. Each Jaeger is controlled by two or more pilots whose brains are linked, called "drifting" to share the heavy mental load of operating the machine. The Jaegers are initially effective, but many are destroyed as the Kaijus grow more powerful and their attacks become more frequent. In 2025, the participating governments deem the Jaeger program unsustainable and discontinue it in favor of building defensive coastal walls. The four remaining Jaegers are redeployed to Hong Kong to protect the coast until the walls are completed. Jaeger commander Stacker Pentecost resolves to make a last-ditch attempt to end the Kaiju threat by destroying The Breach with a nuclear weapon, even though past nuclear strikes on the portal have been unsuccessful.

In early 1950s southern California, Dr. Clayton Forrester (Gene Barry), a scientist who had worked on the Manhattan Project, is fishing with colleagues when a large object crashes near the town of Linda Rosa. At the impact site, he meets Sylvia Van Buren (Ann Robinson) and her uncle, Pastor Matthew Collins (Lewis Martin). Van Buren was told that the meteorite came down at a low angle, while Forrester observes it appears far lighter than normal for its massive size. His Geiger counter also detects it is slightly radioactive, but the object is still too hot to examine closely. Unable to account for these anomalies, Forrester is intrigued and decides to wait in town overnight for the object to cool down.

On July 2, a 500 km wide alien mothership enters Earth's orbit and deploys several dozen saucer-shaped "destroyer" spacecraft, each 15 miles (24 km) wide. As they take position over some of Earth's major cities, David Levinson (Jeff Goldblum), an MIT graduate working for a cable company in New York City, discovers hidden transmissions in Earth's satellites which he realizes is a timer counting down to a coordinated attack by the aliens. With the support of his estranged wife Constance Spano (Margaret Colin), the White House Communications Director, he and his father Julius (Judd Hirsch) gain entrance into the Oval Office to notify President Thomas J. Whitmore (Bill Pullman) about the attack. Whitmore orders large-scale evacuations of the targeted cities, but the aliens attack with advanced directed-energy weapons before these can be carried out. Whitmore, portions of his staff, and the Levinsons narrowly escape aboard Air Force One as Washington, D.C. is destroyed.
