L'idée du film est venue au réalisateur à la suite d'un article du journal Le Monde concernant l'affaire LCTM (Long Term Capital Management), qui en 1998 avait menacé l'équilibre du système financier.
Le coscénariste du film, Paul Besson, est un mathématicien devenu trader.
Synopsis
Trader dans une grande banque new-yorkaise, Erwan mise, joue et gagne. Mais il en veut plus, toujours plus. Lorsqu'il tombe sur un article consacré à la climatologie dans une revue scientifique, il a l'intuition d'une corrélation entre les variations climatiques et le flux boursiers. Persuadé d'avoir mis la main sur la formule magique qui fera de lui le maître des marchés financiers, il persuade Sybille, la scientifique auteur de l'article, de modéliser sa vision et de créer un « hedge fund ».D'abord réticente, celle-ci se laisse convaincre de le suivre. Erwan finit par se prendre à un jeu où tous les coups sont permis.Actors

En 1944, deux enfants en bas âge, Gérald et Robert, sont cachés dans une crèche de Grenoble alors que leurs parents juifs sont déportés. À l'issue de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, la tante des deux petits tente de retrouver la trace de ses neveux. Elle fait appel à Moïse Keller, un vieil ami vivant à Grenoble. Joe One-Way (Gil Bellows) is serving a life sentence for the passion murder of his teenage bride Kimba (Moneca Delain). At the urging of his cellmate Clinique (Shaun Parkes), he composes the play White Man: Black Hole about his crime. Joe had been incarcerated 18 years, before Hollywood agent Markie Mark (Esai Morales), who wishes to make a film of the play, arranges that Joe gets an early release from prison. Wanting to create a great deal of media buzz, he brings Joe into his office to rewrite the stage play in order to give it greater audience appeal. There, Joe meets Fleur (Lisa Ray), Markie's arm candy. Learning she had been a fan of his for some time, the two begin a torrid affair. Tooth and Nail is a post-apocalyptic movie where mankind has depleted all fossil fuel reserves and civilization has collapsed. Ex special forces mercenary and now hardened criminal Vic, (Michael Lazar) lives in a world of cons, double crosses, crooked cops, mob bosses and drug dealing crime lords. Santo's being indicted for murder, and he enlists Vic and Frank to kill the three witnesses that will testify against him. Watching Vic's every move is Santo's strongest soldier, Ray, (Michael Madsen) a stone cold killer, who would like nothing better than to whack Vic and Frank the moment his boss gives him the okay. As the Asian proverb says, "In the shadow of every crime is a woman" and that holds true for Vic as his grifter girlfriend Thea (Lisa Arturo) and Frank's ex, the exotic, sultry, Layla (Michele Lombardo) have their own agendas as they both try in their own way to use and manipulate their men. As Vic tries to juggle all this as well as kill the witnesses to pay off his debt to Santo, and at the same time avoid Ray's wrath, he is pursued by crooked vice cop Ford (Neal McDonough) who's relentless as he turns up the heat on Vic and Frank. On top of all this, it doesn't help that Asian crime lord, Cho (Garret Sato) and his henchman Butch (James Russo) are applying their own brand of pressure on Vic and Frank. They want to take out Santo and Ray, using Vic and Frank as pawns in their game of revenge and murder. In the end, Vic settles all scores as these competing factions come crashing together in the violent, action packed climax.
