Il entame une carrière d'acteur vers trente ans ; avec une centaine de films à son actif, il est l'un des grands acteurs de seconds rôles du cinéma français. Il se fait remarquer par des rôles comme celui du sénateur Dell'Acqua dans Treize femmes pour Casanova de François Legrand ou de l'évêque d'Orléans dans Jeanne d’Arc de Luc Besson. Plus récemment, il était Amédée le doyen des moines dans Des hommes et des dieux de Xavier Beauvois où il joue aux côtés de Lambert Wilson et de Michael Lonsdale.Best films

Un capitaine de police, le capitaine Bénita, et la jeune commissaire Valère fragilisée par la disparition tragique de sa jeune sœur vont être confrontés à 3 meurtres dont celui d'un syndicaliste connu, "le périgourdin". Le modus operandi des crimes reste mystérieux. Après plusieurs recherches, devant ce mode opératoire qui les laisse, lui et sa jeune commissaire, d'abord perplexes, il reconnaît et trouve des similitudes avec des rituels maçonniques. Ils vont donc enquêter dans les milieux des différentes obédiences de la Franc-maçonnerie, ou règne le culte du secret. Commence donc une enquête difficile qui va les mener à découvrir que des personnes essayent d'influer sur l'enquête, dont des maçons noyautant la hiérarchie policière et siégeant au sein d'un comité des 9. Bien vite les soupçons des enquêteurs se portent sur un groupuscule de skinheads néo-nazis, prétendument financés par un descendant américain du militant antimaçonnique Jules Guérin, fondateur du Grand Occident de France et protagoniste de l'affaire dite du Fort Chabrol. Une perquisition dans leurs locaux conduit à un échange de coup de feu, mais leur arrestation n'est pas probante, tout comme celle de leur bailleur de fonds présumé. L'enquête se poursuit sur un conseiller ministériel ayant fondé une fraternelle maçonnique crapuleuse dans les années 1970 et ayant été radié de son ordre pour ces faits.

The film opens with a quotation from the Book of Psalms, Psalm 82:6–7: "I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High. But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes." The monks' peaceful routine of prayer, medical assistance, and community interaction is soon interrupted by the threat of an Islamic fundamentalist group. When their elected leader, Christian (Lambert Wilson), declines the protection of the corrupt civil authority, the monks divide amongst themselves on the question of whether to stay or flee Algeria. Before a decision is reached, a group of fundamentalists, led by Ali Fayattia, enters the monks' compound in force on Christmas Eve and demands their doctor and his medical supplies. Christian refuses their requests and cites the Quran as proof of the monks' goodwill. With a mixture of surprise and respect, Fayattia leaves the compound and grants it his protection until his capture, torture and death at the hands of government forces. Despite the growing danger, the monks come to consensus on the moral importance of maintaining their committed lives with, and ministry to, the local population, even when faced with violence and death. Ultimately, the terrorists seize most of the monks during a nighttime raid and hold them hostage. As the captive monks trudge a snowy path towards a grim fate, the film concludes with the spiritual testament of prior Christian de Chergé, bravely written in the face of death.

The film tells the story of Simon Calmat (Vincent Lindon), a French swimming coach who is divorcing his wife Marion (Audrey Dana). Simon tries to help a young Iraqi-Kurd immigrant, Bilal Kayani (Firat Ayverdi), whose dream is to cross the English Channel from Calais in France to the United Kingdom by any means possible to be reunited with his girlfriend Mina (Derya Ayverdi). Meanwhile, Mina's father strongly opposes Bilal's plans as he wants to marry his daughter to her cousin who owns a restaurant. After being caught with other immigrants and returned to France, Simon gives him temporary refuge at his home after the young Bilal, nicknamed "Bazda" (runner, for his athletic abilities and love of football and Manchester United in particular) registers for swimming lessons, intending to train to be able to swim across the Channel. After police search Simon's apartment, Bilal goes on a final attempt and drowns 800 meters from the English coast while hiding from the coastguard. Simon then travels to inform Mina.

Deux ans après avoir démissionné de la police, Michaël Lombardi (Éric Cantona), un ancien flic est présent sur les lieux du crime d'un riche homme d'affaires. Tout l'accuse et il décide de prendre la fuite. Il se retrouve traqué par ses anciens collègues (dont son frère), accusé à tort du meurtre de plusieurs notables qu'il soupçonne fortement d'être les commanditaires de l'assassinat de ses parents et de plusieurs autres personnes par des tueurs professionnels 26 ans plus tôt (une affaire restée non résolue malgré des années de procédure et le suicide d'un juge d'instruction ayant échoué à résoudre cette affaire). Il mène alors une enquête en parallèle avec la police sur cette histoire vieille de 20 ans dont l'homme d'affaire serait l'un des commanditaires, les autres étant cités sur une mystérieuse liste.
