Upstream is a 1927 American comedy film directed by John Ford. A "backstage drama", the film is about a Shakespearean actor and a woman from a knife-throwing act. The film was considered to be a lost film, but in 2009 a print was discovered in the New Zealand Film Archive.
It is considered to be the first Ford film to show some influence of German director F. W. Murnau, who began working at Fox Studios in 1926. From Murnau, Ford learned how to use forced perspectives and chiaroscuro lighting, which the American director then integrated into his own more naturalistic and direct filmmaking style.
Synopsis
Un jeune homme, Eric Brasingham, rêve d'être un acteur mondialement reconnu. Passionné de William Shakespeare, il décide d'aller jouer Hamlet à Londres. Rejeton d'une célèbre famille d'acteurs, Eric est malheureusement pas doué pour la comédie et il est également imbu de sa personne mais il parvient à se glisser dans les coulisses du monde du spectacle et espère qu'on lui donnera bientôt sa chance. C'est alors qu'il fait la connaissance d'une ravissante femme spécialiste du lancer de couteaux, Gertie Ryan, qui tombe amoureuse de lui. Mais Eric, obsédé par sa probable réussite, ne voit pas l'amour qu'elle lui porte. Elle est également convoitée par Juan, son collègue également lanceur de couteaux. Lorsqu'il part pour Londres, Gertie n'a plus de nouvelles d'Eric, qui accède enfin au succès grâce à la pièce de Shakespeare. Lorsqu'Eric rentre à New York, il découvre que Juan et Gertie, toujours amoureuse de lui secrètement, vont se marier. Il est surpris avec la mariée par Juan qui le frappe et le vire de la cérémonie. Eric, dont le narcissisme a gâché l'histoire d'amour avec Gertie, finit seul.Actors

In 1882 (in reality, the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral happened on Oct 26, 1881), Wyatt, Morgan, Virgil, and James Earp are driving cattle to California when they cross Old Man Clanton, played by Walter Brennan. When they learn about the nearby boom town of Tombstone, the older brothers ride in, leaving the youngest brother James to watch over the cattle. The Earps soon learn that Tombstone is a lawless town without a marshal. Wyatt is the only man in the town willing to face the drunk Indian shooting at the townspeople. When they return to their camp, they find the cattle rustled and James murdered.

While stationed in Algiers Commandant Denis Hogan (Victor McLaglen) receives a letter containing bad news and requests that he be allowed to return to his home country of Ireland, where he is a wanted man. In the year 1890, the honorable Judge William Priest enforces justice in an old Kentucky town. The film begins with the comedic trial of Jeff Poindexter. Jeff Poindexter, a black man, has been accused of stealing chickens. Although Judge Priest is presiding, he is reading a newspaper while Senator Horace Maydew argues the plaintiff’s case. In fact, no one, but Senator Maydew, seems to care about the case. Jeff Poindexter sleeps through Senator Maydew’s testimony. After Senator Maydew is finished with his argument, Judge Priest asks the sheriff to wake up Jeff Poindexter. When Jeff reveals he got his name from Major Randolph Poindexter, Judge Priest and the other confederate veterans in attendance become very excited. They praise Major Poindexter’s ability to lick the Yankees. While the confederate veterans reminisce over the civil war, Senator Maydew complains that such history has nothing to do with the case. Judge Priest says it is relevant because Major Poindexter would often steal Yankee chickens. Next, Jeff reveals he was only trying to fish for catfish. Judge Priest, a fishing enthusiast himself, has a discussion with Jeff about his fishing. After the trial, Jeff lives with Judge Priest.
