Soman, Jagadish, Sukumari, Ganesh Kumar, Maniyanpilla Raju, and Cochin Haneefa. This was the follow-up film of Priyadarshan and producer P. K. R. Pillai after the commercially successful Chithram (1988).
The story of the film is loosely based on the 1987 American film Stakeout. Priyadarshan later remade it as the Telugu film Nirnayam (1991).
Synopsis
Professor Kurian Fernandez (Nedumudi Venu), a convict escapes from jail, along with Raghu (Ganesh Kumar), his cell mate. After a failed attempt to chase and nab the duo, the officials draws out several plans to capture both. Police authorities strongly feel that Fernandez will land up in Banglore and may try to meet up with his only daughter. Unnikrishnan (Mohanlal) and K.Purushothaman Nair (Jagadish), two inspectors from Kerala police are sent to Bangalore to follow the activities of Gaadha (Girija Shettar), daughter of Fernandez. Upon reaching Bangalore, Unnikrishnan meets Peter (Mukesh), his college mate, who is also now an inspector with Karnataka police. Unnikrishnan and Peter makes up a team and sidelines Purushothaman Nair, who struggles hard to cope up with Kannada language. The police team stays at a room just opposite to where Gaadha stays as a paying guests. Gaadha, working at an advertisement agency as a copy writer is staying along with Maggie Aunty (Sukumari), who is constantly in fight with her son (Kuthiravattom Pappu). Unnikrishnan and Peter, who are born flirts, are more interested in drinking and playing cards than investigation. K.P.Nair tries to report this to the authorities, but fails in getting both in control. Unnikrishnan slowly develops a crush towards Gaadha, which gets transformed into a full-fledged passion, but Gaadha never accepts it. Unni befriends with Maggie aunty and tries all ways to woo Gaadha. Meanwhile, Unni and Peter finds out that Fernandez is in the city and is constantly in touch with Gaadha. The police commissioner (M. G. Soman) is in all efforts to nab Fernandez. Unnikrishnan decides to use Gaadha to reach out Fernandez. Gaadha reveals to Unni about the past of Fernandez, when he was a college professor, who was loved and cared by the students. The sincere professor questioned the college authorities on many administration malpractices, which made him a dust in their eyes. The son of the police commissioner was punished by professor, which led to serious fracas in college and authorities were forced to take action on him under severe protests from students. In retaliation, he attacked professor while traveling with a female student. The girl was raped and killed and the professor was falsely convicted in the case. Now, professor is out of jail to avenge on it. Unnikrishnan tries to convince professor with the help of Gaadha, but he fails to give up. Meanwhile, an old man, who is a client of the ad agency, where Gaadha works, likes her and asks her to join him as his secretary abroad. Gaadha, who had by then developed a soft feeling towards Unni lets him to bring his mother (Kaviyoor Ponnamma) to see her. At the same time, Professor succeeds in killing the son of the commissioner. He orders a shoot at sight at Fernandez. Professor goes berserk and loses mental stability and decides to plant a bomb at the city stadium, which might kill hundreds of civilians. Unnikrishnan asks Gaadha to make him give up this heinous plan, but he refuses. That evening, Fernandez plants a bomb, but police team under Unnikrishnan corners him and takes him to the tower. Professor, despite repeated requests denies to explain how defuse the bomb. But Unnikrishnan successfully defuses the bomb, thereby saving the lives of hundreds. But Gaadha, who actually wanted to join with Unni, couldn't join with him and decides to go with the old man to London. The film ends with both the cars with Gaadha and Unni stopping at a junction, when the signal turns green, they move to opposite roads.Actors

Gopan (Mukesh), Kora (Jagadish) and Bhakthavalsan (Sreenivasan) are three college students who share same house along with Prem (Shankar), another classmate. While the trio are more interested in loafing their time by flirting with girls, Prem is more serious in his attitude towards life. On a usual encounter, the trio meets Major Nair (Nedumudi Venu), a retired man in his fifties, who but loves romancing young girls. After a series of ego clashes, Nair learns that the trio is trying to woo his daughter Minu (Lizy). Nair, enraged, challenges them to make his daughter fall for them. Accepting the challenge the trio start to make her fell for them. Minu, who seriously shows concern towards the handicapped people, falls in love with Prem, whom she thinks to be handicapped. Meanwhile, Nair bets with Govind (Sreenath), another street romeo, who is but married to a beautiful innocent girl (Menaka). Nair agrees that he would shave his head if Minu falls in love with anyone within 4 months. Govind says that he would shave his mustache to half if he loses the bet.

After Nadodikkattu and Pattanapravesham, CIDs Ramdas and Vijayan are back for another wacky adventure. When a priceless gold crown is stolen from India, Ramdas (Mohanlal) and Vijayan (Sreenivasan) are sent to the United States to retrieve it. The only clue they have is a pseudonym ("Paul Barber") and a piece of a torn shirt. In the States, the two remain as helpless and clueless as they were in the two prequel films and realize that this is their toughest case yet. They search for Paul Barber, the real criminal, but in vain. They finally by luck retrieve the crown and all the criminals are killed in a comic shoot out between them and the CIDs. And in the end they return to India as heroes.

Revathi (Menaka) comes to the city from a small town in search of a job and to have a good life and as it is with everyone her problem starts with finding a house. Sivaraman (Mohanlal), an unemployed man, comes to Mumbai to find a job. Unfortunately he loses all his certificates but happens to find Govindan Kutty (Mukesh), who also is a jobless man (from Sivaraman's native place) wandering in Mumbai. They try to get visa from a travel agency but finds no way to gather such massive amount. Govindan Kutty persuades Sivaraman to participate in a bank robbery planned by Thomas (Cochin Haneefa) and his gang - his stammering brother Tyootty (Jagadish) and Alina (who pretends to be Thomas' lover) - which puts them in more trouble as the robbery ends in vain when they hit Pothuval (Innocent). Alina secretly informs the police about the robbery and tells that the entire plan was carried out by Thomas. Thomas, before getting arrested, hides the money, and the place is kept secret except to his lawyer, Nambeeshan (Jagathy Sreekumar). Alina fakes to be in love with Nambeeshan to find the place where the money is hidden.

The train No.20 Madras Mail to Madras starts from Trivandrum Central. R.K. Nair (M.G. Soman), a Kollam-based businessman takes the first class coupe of the train to Madras with his wife Geetha (Jayabharathi) and daughter Devi (Suchitra) from Kollam Junction. Tony Kurushingal (Mohanlal), along with his friends Hitchcock Kanjikuzhi (Manianpilla Raju) and Kumbalam Hari (Jagadish) boards the same coach from Kottayam. Tony is the son of a wealthy businessman, Kurishinkal Kariyachan (Jagannatha Varma), Kanjikuzhi is a detective novelist and Hari is an young politician. The three of them are going to Madras for seeing a cricket match and to make attempts to make Kanjikuzhi's novel Vaazhikuzhiyile Kolapathakam a film. All the three are heavily drunken while boarding the train. After entering the train and seeing Devi, Tony and friends make several attempts in getting a seat for Tony in the same coupe of Devi, with the help of TTE officer Nadar (Innocent) but with little success. While doing so Tony gets into heated arguments with RK Nair and Sunil (Ashokan), who has a reserved seat in the same coupe (from Ernakulam) as that of R.K. Nair. Actor Mammootty boards the train from Thrissur and gets into the same coach. Nadar leaves the train at Palakkad after giving company with Tony and gang and the new TTE Chokalingam a.k.a. Choki (Jagathy Sreekumar) enters the train. Tony and his friends visit Mammootty in his coupe and soon become friends with him. Meanwhile Tony tries to flirt with Devi while she returns from the toilet, which causes Tony to land in trouble with R.K Nair but Mammootty cools the scene. All goes to sleep late night.

In California, the Republican party governor candidate John Kory (Sean James Sutton) is striving to raise his dismal ratings. Sunny Kurishingal (Vijay Babu), the chief campaign officer of John Kory, is failing with his campaign strategies and runs out of ideas to ensure Kory's victory. Sunny is forced to consult a third person's advise and calls Francis Kunjappan (Mukesh), a PWD minister and his native friend in Kerala, for hiring any good political consultant for devising campaign strategies. Kunjappan, initially reluctant, later recommends his friend and political competitor Jagannathan (Mohanlal), thus also hoping to get rid of him as he is a political threat to his ministerial position. Jagannathan, a young politician and a sports enthusiastic, is illiterate in English but has an inborn talent to solve the gravest of issues in the most prudent manner. Even Francis had consulted him for solving his toughest problems. But Francis thinks that Jaganathan’s unorthodox ideas will fail miserably in the US. Kunjappan meets Jagannathan and offers him the job and a remuneration of ₹30 crores which is sufficient to raise Jagannathan's dream project, a sports academy in Kerala. Jagannathan takes up the assignment and flies to the US, together with his assistants Pottakuzhi Jabbar (Baburaj) and Vayalar Varkey (Aju Varghese).

C Pavithran Nair, also called CP is a young contractor who strives hard to make a living between his family and employees. He has not been very successful so far. However his brother Radhakrishnan Nair is a successful contractor who has big contract works at hand, most of which he gained through unlawful ways. CP’s brother in law is also a successful person working in the Municipality. One day a bridge constructed by CP’s brother Radhakrishnan Nair is collapsed while a bus on it and many people gets killed. It is revealed it is because Radhakrishnan Nair’s greed that the bridge was built weak and therefore collapsed. To cover the issue Nair with the help of his brother in law Prabhakaran, devise a plan to put the responsibility over their driver’s shoulder. The driver who is a poor man because of poor life conditions accepts to take the responsibility for the destruction of the bridge. He is told to say to the police that he blew the bridge up with bomb when his employers’, i.e., Radhakrishnan Nair and family refused to raise his wage when he asked them to. Later afraid of the driver revealing the truth, they kill him. Meanwhile when the bridge was collapsed a man named Sivan had lost his family (wife and daughter). He comes to these people one day and threatens them for what they did. One day CP happens to meet his ex-girlfriend Radha at the Municipal office who is now an officer in the Municipal office. She is against CP’s contract works since CP is trying to mix water-in-milk in his works. She asks him not to seize a road roller which he lost to Municipality as a compensation for damage in a culvert built by him(?). However he does so and feels great in doing so. In his conversations with Radha it is revealed that CP was a very active student in his college days and he was in love with Radha. One day in some disagreement on not partaking in a strike organized by CP, Radha is slapped by him and the relationship is broken there until it rekindles later. Coming to the present we see the road-roller which he made his, is not working properly. In order to repair it his friend Gopi arranges a mechanic Sulaiman. Sulaiman does not know the work properly. He keeps on telling CP that he will ‘repair it fast’ but does not do so. Finally they arrange an elephant to pull the road roller otherwise as Radha said the Municipality would charge fees for not moving it away from its compound. The elephant which is made to pull the road roller slips the rope and despite the funny efforts of everyone the road roller loses its control and hits the wall of Radha’s house. It becomes a big problem and CP tries everything possible to stop it. Police had been entering CP’s house for many reasons which causes his father’s to lose trust over his son. CP’s younger sister Deepa gets marriage proposal from a politician who is not loyal. The proposal is arranged by CP’s brother and brother in law who have professional interest to be fulfilled from this marriage. CP’s sister is later killed from what he believed from hearing that it was a blast of stove. The Municipality later decides to stop all contract works of CP. CP thinks that this is Radha’s plan and decides to take revenge on her. He cheats her by telling her to pass some money to her brother which he tells he owes to her brother. Just after she receives the money vigilance arrives at the scene and she is arrested. Later she tries to commit suicide but is saved. She is then visited by CP who tells his misfortunate story to her, situations which made him what he is now. The love rekindles between the two then. Sivan who is now a Panchayat President is a righteous person. He does a self-investigation on all illegal activities that pervade in different government offices including CP’s brother in laws’. CP comes to know about the good heart of Sivan through Radha and he decides to live a truthful life from here onwards. Sivan and CP meet and Sivan trusts CP. Meanwhile the minister gets a letter requesting to announce an investigation on NREP projects which was misused by CP’s brother and brother in law. Officers in Village Development Office try hard to make Sivan come to their terms so that they can misuse the fund with Sivan’s help. CP is tried as a prop for this, however their plan goes vain. One night Sivan is stabbed by people sent by CP’s brother and brother in law. CP takes Sivan to hospital. However after telling CP his efforts to bring people behind all evil things to the law and after detailing Deepa’s ill fate, Sivan dies. CP manages to save Sivan’s documents detailing the crimes done by his relatives. He then publishes it and the brother and brother in law are punished. In the end after justifying his deeds and his earlier failures before his relatives who blame him for sending his own relatives to jail, CP plans to leave his house just as he left while he was young. But he is stopped by Radha who offers all support in rest of his life and in his future ventures.
