Add to a movie listWelcome (Russian: Добро пожаловать) is a 1986 Soviet paint-on-glass-animated 10-minute film adapted from the 1948 children's book by Dr. Seuss Thidwick the Big-Hearted Moose. Coproduction of Sverdlovsk television studio and Gosteleradio.
Released in 1986, the film went on to win the Grand Prix at the Ottawa International Animation Festival in 1988 and in Los Angeles. Although the visual style is quite different, the story is mostly the same with the exception of some subtle changes — for example, the moose isn't shown rejoining his herd at the end and the squatter animals aren't stuffed and mounted. Also, none of the animals are ever named and there is no narrator. The film was directed by Alexei Karayev. The art director was Aleksandr Petrov, who would later win an Oscar for his 1999 film The Old Man and the Sea. The screenplay was written by Yury Iosifovich Koval, a renowned author.

The film is set in 1980s Moscow. Standing right in the city centre on Kalinin Prospekt, a barefoot man dressed in a tattered coat appeals to anyone with a strange request: "Tell me the number of your planet in the tenture? Or least the number of your galaxy in the spiral?". Random passers-by, two Soviet citizens previously unknown to each other ("Uncle Vova", a gruff construction foreman from Moscow, Vladimir Mashkov, and a "Violinist", a student from Georgia, Gedevan Aleksidze), start a conversation with him, during which the stranger shows them an alien teleportation device – "traveller". The foreman Mashkov holds out his hand to the device and, despite the stranger's warnings, presses a random button. Suddenly Uncle Vova and the violinist find themselves alone on the desert planet "Pluke" in the "Kin-dza-dza" galaxy. From that point on, the movie describes their long quest to find a way back home.

To escape from a hot tropical place Shuleykin (Evgeni Leonov) accepts a position on a ship looking after a cargo of twelve cages with tigers.
