Zamana is a 1985 film starring Rajesh Khanna, Rishi Kapoor, Poonam Dhillon and Ranjeeta. Kulbhushan Karbanda, Girish Karnad, Avataar Gill, Mac Mohan, Satyen Kapu, Om Puri and Pillo Wadia form the supporting cast. The film was successful at the box office with collection of 4.5 crores in 1985.

Synopsis

The story is about the misunderstandings develops between the brothers Inspector Vinod S. Kumar (Rajesh Khanna) and Ravi S. Kumar (Rishi Kapoor). Their father Satish, a photographer, was murdered when Vinod was 3 years old and his mother Sudha was pregnant with Ravi. When the children grow up, Vinod becomes a police inspector and Ravi becomes a criminal working for a don named J.D. The men fall in love with the same woman, but are reconciled, and Vinod finds his father's killers and convinces his younger brother to leave the world of crime.

Mohan Kumar is a very honest and conscientious man and is working as general manager of a Shipping company owned by his very good friend, Dinesh. Dinesh is a widower and his daughter, Roma is very attached to Mohan Kumar, his wife Sumitra and son Ravi. Jugal Kishore, Bhandari and Balwant are a notorious gang of smugglers and all are working under Mohan Kumar in the same shipping company. By a sheer co-incidence Mohan Kumar comes to know of their activities and apprehending police station, these three plan the murder of Dinesh and very deviously frame Mohan Kumar for the murder of Dinesh. Mohan Kumar is helpless and cannot prove his innocence in the court and is sentenced to Life Imprisonment. His wife is also killed in an accident because of these three villains.

Widowed Lala Yodhraj Bhalla (Anupam Kher) lives in a palatial house with his daughter, Suman (Hema Malini), and son, Shashiraj (Raj Babbar). Both of his children are of marriageable age. He gets a shock when he finds out that Suman is in love with a lowly employee by the name of Ajit Bhardwaj (Rajesh Khanna), and refuses to give his consent for their marriage.
