Ce film raconte la mésaventure du marin islandais Guðlaugur Friðþórsson (né le 24 septembre 1961), qui a réussi, à la suite du naufrage de son bateau de pêche le 11 mars 1984, à regagner Heimaey, le port d'attache du navire, après avoir nagé sur six kilomètres pendant six heures dans une eau à 5°C. Il a ensuite dû encore marcher deux kilomètres sur un champ de lave avant d'arriver à rejoindre le port d'Heimaey.
The young blacksmith Thor lives happily with his single mother in a peaceful little village. The legend says he is the son of Odin, the King of the Gods. Therefore the fellow villagers believe that the terrifying Giants will never attack them. But they are terribly mistaken. A Giant army crushes the village and takes the villagers to Hel, the Queen of the Underworld. Thor is knocked out and left behind. He sets out to save his friends with the hammer Crusher - who claims to be a magical weapon!

Englar Alheimsins, which has often been called an Icelandic One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, is the story of an Icelandic man named Páll (Ingvar E. Sigurðsson). After his girlfriend leaves him he's slowly turning into a state of madness and depression. His parents decide to send him to a mental hospital where he meets Óli (Baltasar Kormákur), who believes he's the songwriter for The Beatles, Viktor (Björn Jörundur Friðbjörnsson), who signs cheques with the signature of Adolf Hitler, and other special characters. The movie depicts his struggle, in and out of the mental hospital.
