Akuma (in Japanese, "devil" or "demon"), known in Japan as Gouki (豪鬼, Gōki, lit. "Great Demon" or " Great ogre"), is a fictional character from the Street Fighter series of fighting games by Capcom. Akuma made his debut in Super Street Fighter II Turbo as a secret character and hidden boss. In the storyline of the Street Fighter video games, he is the younger brother of Gouken, Ryu's and Ken's master. In some games he also has an enhanced version named Shin Akuma, or Shin Gouki (真・豪鬼, Shin Gōki, the "true Great Demon") in Japanese. Akuma has achieved significant success, popularity, positive critical reception, and has been mostly well received by both fans and critics. Biography
Il fut élève de Goutetsu, avec son frère Gouken.C'est lui-même qui fut à l'origine du meurtre du maître commun de Ken et Ryu et cherche désormais à combattre ce dernier.
Il est le frère du maître de Ryu et de Ken, Gouken. Il tua ce dernier pour tester les limites de sa puissance, grâce à la technique du « Shun Goku Satsu » (prison de la mort instantanée ). Cette technique consiste à attraper son adversaire en lui infligeant 15 coups à différents points vitaux. Il trahit l'enseignement de son maître dans sa jeunesse en apprenant les techniques interdites du Karaté Hadō Ansatsuken. Mais étant devenu le guerrier le plus fort du monde, il s'ennuie et attend l'avènement d'un nouvel adversaire suffisamment puissant pour le battre. Cet adversaire sera peut-être Ryu.
Dans l'OAV Street Fighter Alpha: Generations, réalisé en 2005, il est ouvertement entendu qu'Akuma est le père de Ryu.
Un vieillard maître d'arts martiaux aurait amené Ryu enfant à Gouken afin de s'assurer qu'il ne suive pas le même chemin que son père. C'est-à-dire l'empêcher d'être à son tour submergé par le côté obscur du Hadō (une des techniques interdites les plus dangereuses, le Hado ayant été créé par un peuple d'assassins).
Akuma fait son apparition dans le jeu vidéo Tekken 7 : en effet, il est chargé par Kazumi, l'épouse défunte d'Heihachi, de mettre fin au conflit opposant les familles Mishima et Kazama en tuant Heihachi et Kazuya. Il connait Kazumi, car cette dernière lui a sauvé la vie, et a une dette envers elle.

The film follows Ryu after waking up from a nightmare about Akuma. While walking in the forest, he is followed by a mysterious warrior revealed to be Ken Masters, Ryu's old friend and sparring partner. The two have a match together using their signature moves Hadōken, Shoryuken, Tatsumaki Senpū Kyaku in the day time and night time in the rain. The film ends with the two in mid-air about to kick.

The movie begins with Gouki (as Akuma is called in both the Japanese and English dubs of the movie) battling his master Goutetsu. Though both combatants show equal potency, in the end, Gouki is the victor, killing Goutetsu with the Raging Demon technique.

Ryu is still contemplating the death of his master, Gouken, while at the same time experiencing trouble with the "Dark Hadou" (殺意の波動, Satsui no Hadō, lit. "Surge of Murderous Intent"), an evil energy which Gouken's brother, Akuma, succumbed to a long time ago. While in the city, Ryu fights off a few agents working for Shadaloo, gaining the attention of Interpol agent Chun-Li, who does some background research and realizes Ryu is the man who beat Sagat, the Muay Thai Champion, many years ago. Also catching sight of Ryu is aspiring martial artist Sakura, who becomes fascinated with Ryu and vows to track him down and become his student.
