Lemmy Caution est un personnage de romans, puis de films noirs, créé en 1936 par l'écrivain britannique Peter Cheyney. Biography
Agent du FBI, Lemmy Caution pèse quatre-vingt-quinze kilos et a une tête qui fait de lui la coqueluche de ces femmes. Grand coureur de jupons, il sait d'ailleurs chanter des sérénades en s'accompagnant à la guitare pour les séduire. Mais c'est avant tout un redoutable détective qui aime bien tabasser les truands de tous poils qui croisent son chemin. Il affectionne aussi les soliloques humoristiques (dont le cynisme et les bons mots sont amplifiés, il est vrai, par les traducteurs dans les éditions françaises).Le rôle a été interprété à l'écran par l'acteur franco-américain Eddie Constantine, en particulier dans le film La Môme vert-de-gris de Borderie en 1953 et dans Alphaville de Jean-Luc Godard en 1965, qui fait basculer l'univers policier de Caution dans celui de la science-fiction.

Lemmy Caution is a secret agent with the code number of 003 from "the Outlands". Entering Alphaville in his Ford Mustang, called a Ford Galaxie, he poses as a journalist named Ivan Johnson, and claims to work for the Figaro-Pravda. He wears a tan overcoat that stores various items such as a M1911A1 Colt Commander automatic pistol. He carries a cheap Instamatic camera (new in 1965) with him and photographs everything he sees, particularly the things that would ordinarily be unimportant to a journalist.

Lemmy Caution is on holidays. While he seeks recreation he happens to get entangled in a murder investigation. Soon it is revealed that the female victim had been blackmailed by a foreign secret service. Her husband works for the government and is in possession of national secrets. Her friends are likewise blackmailed and forced into spying on their husbands. Lemmy takes care of this matter.
