Le roi Arthur ou Arthur Pendragon est, d'après les romances médiévales, un seigneur breton qui aurait organisé la défense des peuples celtes des îles Britanniques et de Bretagne armoricaine face aux envahisseurs germaniques à la fin du V siècle ou au début du VI siècle. La légende d'Arthur est principalement inspirée par le folklore et l'invention littéraire, et son existence historique n'est pas attestée. Les sources historiques sont recueillies sur de rares textes contradictoires, essentiellement des poèmes et contes en langue galloise, des annales et chroniques décrivant la romanisation et la christianisation de la Grande-Bretagne comme les Annales Cambriae et l’Historia Brittonum et la vie des premiers saints de l'île bretonne, comme Gildas le Sage. Le nom d'Arthur apparaît également dans d'anciens poèmes tel que le Y Gododdin. Son histoire se situe à une époque où le terme « Bretagne » désignait la grande moitié sud de l'actuelle Grande-Bretagne.

La figure légendaire d'Arthur s'est développée essentiellement grâce à l’Historia regum Britanniae (Histoire des rois de Bretagne) écrite par Geoffroy de Monmouth au XII siècle. Toutefois, antérieurement à cette œuvre, certains contes et poèmes gallois ou bretons, ainsi que des chroniques ou annales reprenant des traditions orales, font déjà apparaître Arthur comme un grand guerrier défendant la Bretagne des hommes et d'ennemis surnaturels ou comme une figure magique du folklore, parfois associée à Annwvyn, l'autre-Monde celtique. La part du récit de Geoffroy de Monmouth, écrit encore en latin, adaptée des sources antérieures et celle issue de son imagination sont inconnues.

Bien que les thèmes, les événements et les personnages de la légende du roi Arthur varient considérablement de texte en texte, et qu'il n'existe pas de version unique, les événements contés dans l’Historia regum Britanniae ont servi de base pour la plupart des histoires postérieures.

Geoffroy de Monmouth dépeint Arthur comme un roi ayant établi un empire rassemblant toute l'île de Bretagne, ainsi que l'Irlande, l'Islande, la Norvège, le Danemark et une bonne partie de la Gaule. En fait, beaucoup d'éléments qui font désormais partie intégrante de l'histoire du roi Arthur apparaissent dans l’Historia regum Britanniae : le père d'Arthur Uther Pendragon, Merlin l'Enchanteur, l'épée Excalibur, la naissance d'Arthur à Tintagel, sa dernière bataille contre Mordred à Camlann et sa retraite finale à Avalon. Au XII siècle, l'écrivain français Chrétien de Troyes y ajoute Lancelot du Lac et le Saint Graal et initie le genre de la romance arthurienne (en puisant dans la matière de Bretagne) qui devient un volet important de la littérature médiévale. Dans ces histoires, la narration se concentre souvent sur d'autres personnages, tels que les différents chevaliers de la Table ronde au lieu de se focaliser sur le roi Arthur. La littérature arthurienne a prospéré pendant le Moyen Âge, avant de perdre de l'importance dans les siècles qui suivent. Elle est redevenue un sujet à la mode depuis le XIX siècle. Au XXI siècle, le roi Arthur est toujours un personnage mis en scène, à la fois dans la littérature mais aussi dans les adaptations scéniques (festivals, spectacles vivants), au théâtre, au cinéma, à la télévision, dans les bandes dessinées, et d'autres médias.

Scientist Vivien Morgan is zapped back to the medieval age and time of King Arthur and Camelot, when her scientific machine malfunctions. She is sent back along with many objects from her desk, including her laptop and boom box. As she is sentenced to be burned at the stake, she discovers among the laptop-data, that there will be a solar eclipse in short time. With her "magical powers" she makes the sun re-appear and is being knighted by King Arthur as Sir Boss and becomes a member of the Knights of the Round Table. She soon begins constructing devices that will not be present for many centuries, she saves the king, defeats Sir Sagramore and saves the day countless times before being zapped back to the present.

The story is based on the myth of King Arthur. A young, inexperienced squire Valiant, masquerading as Sir Gawain, is sent to accompany the Welsh princess Lady Ilene, a guest at Camelot, on her way back home. Little he knows that, meanwhile, the evil sorceress Morgan le Fay has convinced the Viking warlord Sligon, ruler of the kingdom of Thule, to steal the magical sword Excalibur during a joust tournament. Valiant and the princess become part of the struggle of "he who holds the sword rules the world" which leads them both to love and Valiant to his princely destiny, as it turns out he is the rightful heir to the throne of Thule. The usurper is eventually killed by his brother Thagnar, who also captures Ilene. In a final confrontation, the villains are killed and Valiant rescues the princess and recovers Excalibur.

Calvin Fuller is a nerdy young boy living in the Los Angeles suburb of Reseda. The sorcerer Merlin retrieves Excalibur from the Lady of the Lake for Uther Pendragon, who secures a brief alliance with Gorlois, the Duke of Cornwall. La NASA décide de mettre en place un voyage spatial habité qui dispose de la vitesse de la lumière. Le nom de la navette ainsi que du projet dénommé "Stardust". Le voyage est à destination de l'étoile la plus proche de nous connu sous le nom d'Alpha du Centaure mais le ministre de la défense refuse ce projet car la durée du voyage dure 4 ans 1/2 pour y aller et autant pour y revenirainsi que 20 ans pour explorer le système de la dite étoile donc trop long pour des humains. Le ministre impose un ultimatum de mettre autre chose que des humains dans cette navette. Le professeur Zimmerman (chef du projet) téléphone à un jeune savant dénommé Tom Trimble pour construire un humanoïde (un robot de forme humaine) qui pourra effectuer le dit voyage, il devra parler et fonctionner. Tom Trimble construit l'humanoïde auquel il donne son propre visage et le nomme "Hermès", en référence au dieu grec des transports. Hermès a sa propre intelligence artificielle et apprends rapidement les connaissances dispensées par son créateur. Il a des réflexes humains et réagit comme un humain; ainsi il pourra expliquer les effets du vol durant ces 9 ans de voyage aller-retour. Hermès est présenté au ministre qui approuve le projet. Le jour du départ de la fusée transportant la navette, Hermès refuse de partir car il a peur de pas revenir alors Tom Trimble est envoyé à bord pour le raisonner, mais un éclair frappe la tour de décollage et fait partir accidentellement la navette avec Hermès et Tom encore à bord. Hermès est mis hors circuit sous le coup de la force du décollage et laisse seul aux commandes Tom Trimble. Trimble ne peut revenir sur Terre et il est obligé de faire le voyage. Trimble décide d'essayer de réparer Hermès mais pendant ce temps la navette déclenche la vitesse lumière. Trimble s'aperçoit que la navette tourne autour de la Terre puis atterrit. Il atterrit en Grande-Bretagne et il sort en scaphandre. Une jeune fille le prend pour un monstre et Trimble décide de la suivre à Camelot. Trimble s'aperçoit en chemin qu'il se retrouve dans l'Angleterre du VI siècle après J.C. au temps du roi Arthur.

In 932, King Arthur, along with his squire, Patsy, recruits his Knights of the Round Table: Sir Bedevere the Wise, Sir Lancelot the Brave, Sir Galahad the Pure, Sir Robin the Not-Quite-So-Brave-As-Sir-Lancelot, and the aptly named Sir Not-appearing-in-this-film.
