Anthony Ross (February 23, 1909 – October 26, 1955) was a Broadway stage, television and film actor.
Born in New York City, he may be best remembered for being the first to play the character of "the Gentleman Caller" in the original 1944 production of Tennessee Williams' The Glass Menagerie.
Ross appeared in 20th Century Fox films including Kiss of Death (1947) and The Gunfighter (1950); in the Nicholas Ray-directed film noir, On Dangerous Ground (1952), and in the popular serial Mysterious Island (1951). He also appeared as the "Producer" in The Country Girl, as well in Bus Stop, both the movie and the Broadway production.
He appeared in many television productions, including the 1954 CBS series The Telltale Clue in which he starred as police Captain Richard Hale.
Ross died at age 46 of a heart attack in 1955.

Robert Ryan plays Jim Wilson, a tough police detective embittered by years of dealing with low-life urban scum. During the siege of Richmond, Virginia, in the American Civil War, POW Capt. Cyrus Harding escapes from his Confederate captors in a rather unusual way – by hijacking an observation balloon. In his escape, Harding is accompanied by sailor Pencroft, his nephew Bert, writer Gideon, loyal soldier Neb, and a dog. A hurricane blows the balloon off course, and the group eventually crash-lands on a cliff-bound, volcanic, uncharted (and fictitious) island, located in the South Pacific, with very unusual inhabitants. Decorated submarine commander Commander William Talbot's (Glenn Ford) boat the USS Bluefin (actually the USS Cusk) is on manoeuvers with the goal of simulating sinking the aircraft carrier USS Midway (CV-41). The Midway is carrying some politicians to view the test firing of a JB-2 missile from its flight deck. Sighting the carrier, the Bluefin attempts a simulated torpedo attack but is detected and "sunk" by a depth charge attack from a destroyer.
