Arthur J. Nascarella (born November 18, 1944) is an American actor who has appeared in dozens of films, most often playing a mobster or police officer. Among his notable film credits include a corrupt cop in Cop Land (1997), a hypocritical ambulance captain in Bringing Out The Dead (1999) and a fed-up casino boss in The Cooler (2003). He has also appeared in Clockers (1995), He Got Game (1998), Enemy of the State (1998), World Trade Center (2006), and Solitary Man (2009).
He played fictional mobster and Capo Carlo Gervasi in the hit TV-series The Sopranos.
Before he became an actor, Nascarella was a 20-year veteran of the New York City Police Department. He also served eight years in the United States Marine Corps.

In New York City, Nick Cassidy (Sam Worthington) checks in to the Roosevelt Hotel under the false name of Walker, goes to his hotel room on the 21st floor, and climbs on the ledge, apparently ready to commit suicide. The crowd below calls the police, with Dante Marcus (Titus Welliver) controlling the crowd, while Jack Dougherty (Edward Burns) tries to talk with Nick. However, Nick will only speak to negotiator Lydia Mercer (Elizabeth Banks), who is on a leave of absence, after failing to save a suicidal policeman. Lydia arrives at the hotel room and manages to acquire Nick's fingerprints from a cigarette they share. Dougherty has them analyzed and discovers that Nick is an ex-policeman, arrested for stealing the $40 million Monarch diamond from businessman David Englander (Ed Harris). Nick was given a 25-year sentence but escaped from the Sing Sing Correctional Facility one month earlier, after being allowed to attend his father's funeral. Nick, however, maintains his innocence and accuses Englander of framing him for the theft of the diamond, as Englander lost his fortune and was too proud to sell the diamond.

In the 1970s, a Jewish American businessman from Brooklyn, New York, moves his family to New Orleans, Louisiana, where his textile factory is relocated. However, life in the South gets tough as he lives beyond his means and overspends, while a big investor decides to pull out of the deal. Desperate, he takes a loan from the local mob and snaps at his wife and daughters. He sees a psychologist upon his wife's urging, but he assures him he is fine and his wife must be unduly concerned because she is a Holocaust survivor. However, after he attempts to commit suicide, his wife calls the police and they send him to a psychiatric hospital to deal with his anxiety disorder. Meanwhile, his younger daughter wins a US$500-poetry competition sponsored by the Campbell Soup Company. Eventually, she sees her father again when he has recovered from stress.

On September 11, 2001, Port Authority Police officers John McLoughlin and Will Jimeno are patrolling the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Midtown Manhattan when they see a plane fly dangerously low overhead. As all of the police officers return to the station, they see on TV that the North Tower of the World Trade Center has been hit by the plane. Sergeant McLoughlin assigns many of the officers to assist in a precautionary evacuation attempt of the North Tower and they board a Metropolitan Transit Authority bus. On the bus, they hear reports that the South Tower is also hit by another plane. When they arrive at the World Trade Center, they realize the extent of the disaster, and see one of the victims jump out of the towers to certain death. The men proceed to get safety equipment from Building 5 and enter the concourse between the towers.

Unlucky Bernie Lootz (William H. Macy) has little positive going for him: he lives in a dreary place-a studio apartment in a rundown motel staged near the Las Vegas Strip; he can't recall the last time he had physical contact with a woman; he's indebted to the Shangri-La casino boss Shelly Kaplow (Alec Baldwin), who years earlier cured him of a gambling habit by breaking his kneecap. What Bernie doesn't know yet is that Shelly has paid Natalie to seduce him into staying and working at the Shangri-La. What Shelly doesn't know is that Natalie actually has fallen in love with Bernie, and vice versa. Additional complications arise when Shelly, a relative old-timer who resents the Disneyfication of Vegas, resists the efforts of new Shangri-La owner advisers, including Ivy League graduate and condescending upstart Larry Sokolov (Ron Livingston), to update the casino hotel property and bring it into the 21st century.
