Set in Toronto at an unknown date, Last Night tells the story of how a variety of intersecting characters spend their final evening on Earth. The movie is about a documentary team that follows the reunion of Hard Core Logo. Joe Dick gets the band back together ostensibly for an anti-gun benefit after hearing Canadian punk rock legend Bucky Haight, and personal mentor, is shot. They begin the tour in Vancouver and travel to Edmonton, via Winnipeg. On the way the band's dark secrets are revealed. John Oxenberger loses his schizophrenia medication and slowly loses his sanity. Billy Tallent finds out that by going on tour he loses his position in mainstream rock band Jenifur and with that his one shot at stardom. The band stops by Bucky Haight's reclusive estate only to find he was never shot and that Joe Dick fabricated the lie in order to get the band together. The band and documentary crew drop acid and experience hallucinations. Bucky admonishes Joe Dick for using him to get the band together. At Edmonton, Billy Tallent finds out he has another opportunity to permanently join Jenifur. Joe Dick finds out from the film crew and later attacks Billy on stage. Joe Dick destroys Billy Tallent's Fender Stratocaster, which was a gift from Bucky Haight, and the band parts ways. In the final scene Joe Dick drinks with the documentary crew members and shoots himself.

The film stars Valerie Buhagiar as Ramona, an intern at a Toronto record label who is sent to Sudbury by promoter Roy Seth (Gerry Quigley) to track down the label's star band, Children of Paradise, after they disappear on tour. Dora (Chloe Rose) is an average teenager who just wants to have fun and get high with her boyfriend Jace (Luke Bilyk) on Halloween. She's stunned when her doctor Henry (Rossif Sutherland) tells her that she's four weeks pregnant, something that she says shouldn't be possible. Distraught, she goes home to wait for Jace while her mother (Rachel Wilson) takes Dora's younger brother Remi (Peter DaCunha) trick-or-treating. However before her boyfriend can pick her up, Dora is visited by several children in strange costumes. Their presence grows increasingly more menacing, culminating with one bringing her Jace's decapitated head in a bag. Their reason for doing this is that they want her unborn child. From this point on Dora must fight against the monstrous children, a feat made more difficult by the fact that her pregnancy is progressing at an extremely accelerated and unnatural rate.

Ethan Morgan (Matthew Knight) is a geeky freshman, not trusted by his parents to stay home alone with his little sister Jane. They hire Erica (Kate Todd), a girl from Ethan's high school who is a huge fan of "Dusk" (a parody of Twilight), as a babysitter. However, Erica comes across her best friend Sarah (Vanessa Morgan), and Jesse (Joe Dinicol), Sarah's vampire ex-boyfriend, on the night she is to babysit, and decides to attend a party that Jesse is throwing instead. In the small town of Pontypool, Ontario, former shock jock turned radio announcer Grant Mazzy drives through a blizzard on his way to work. When poor visibility forces him to stop his car, an underdressed woman appears on the road, startling him. Grant calls out to her, but she disappears into the storm, ominously repeating his words and visibly disturbing him. Grant eventually arrives at the radio station, where he works with technical assistant Laurel-Ann Drummond, who has recently worked in Afghanistan, and station manager Sydney Briar, a divorcée who is very critical toward Mazzy's shock jock style.

The US east coast is suddenly struck by a type of a massive destructive force of nature usually only happening after a major earthquake in the Pacific and Indian ocean rims: tidal waves of the destructive tsunami type. Scientist and fiction author John McAdams is forced to attend a type of Department of Homeland Security conference which concludes the phenomenon must be man-made, quite possibly abusing the findings of John's secret former Sea Lion project, but leaves questions of who wants to and has the means unanswered. Indeed John and his colleague Sophie, a Québécois, soon find John set up for a murder of a potential whistleblower and are pursued by The FBI,Maine State Police and a pair of foreign ruthless assassins. Major destruction means major contracts for construction and coastal defenses, so building tycoons like Victor Bannister certainly have a considerable interest.
