De son vai nom Yeung Choi-lee (ou Choi-nei) elle est née le 25 mars 1974. Elle a été découverte par Wong Kar-wai alors qu'elle était encore à l'université. Le réalisateur lui confie un rôle dans Les Cendres du temps. Charlie débute alors une carrière dominée par The Lovers. Elle complète ses revenus en poussant la chansonnette (à Hong Kong les acteurs sont assez mal payés !) et enregistre plusieurs albums.Au moment de la rétrocession de la colonie à la Chine elle prend sa retraite et part s'installer à Singapour.

La police de Hong Kong assiste aux obsèques des deux surintendants tués lors du film précédent. Peu de temps après, le commissaire Sean Lau (Aaron Kwok) reçoit un appel de l'un des responsables du vol du fourgon de police qui lui dit que sa femme a été enlevée et qu'elle sera échangée contre Joe Lee (Eddie Peng). Lau outrepasse la procédure habituelle pour transférer Joe hors de prison et le ravisseur lui ordonne de l'amener à une station de métro. Sur place, Joe réussit à s’échapper grâce à ses complices, dont l’un déclenche une bombe. Les criminels libèrent dans le même temps la femme de Lau dans la station.

A pulp serial author with numerous personal problems resulting in a serious case of writer's block, temporarily escapes reality by living vicariously through one of his lead characters in a story about a quest for a mythical scripture. This story within a story has Jet Li up against an enormous mutant rat, Japanese sumo wrestlers and ninjas, although the pen is mightier than the sword (or metal grill, as it were) in this film by famed director Ching Siu-tung.(Note the beginning description of the plot given here seems to be different from the English dubbed version).
