Clive Barker (born 5 October 1952) is an English author, film director, video game designer and visual artist best known for his work in both fantasy and horror fiction. Barker came to prominence in the mid-1980s with a series of short stories which established him as a leading young horror writer. He has since written many novels and other works, and his fiction has been adapted into motion pictures, notably the Hellraiser and Candyman series.

Biography

Ses livres favoris sont The Pan Books of Horror Stories, une anthologie recueillie par Herbert Van Thal, et Tales of the Mystery and Imagination d'Edgar Allan Poe.

Il commence alors à écrire des pièces de théâtre : The History of the Devil, Frankenstein in Love, Subtle Bodies, The Secret Life of the Cartoons et Colossus.

Ils seront suivis de Cabale en 1988 et Secret Show (The Great and secret show) en 1989.

Charles Brady and his mother Mary are Sleepwalkers—nomadic, shapeshifting energy vampires who feed off the lifeforce of virgin women. Though they normally maintain a human form, they can transform (partially or fully) into human-sized bipedal werecats (presumably their natural form) at will. They are considerably more resilient than humans and have powers of both telekinesis and illusion. Their one weakness is cats, who are not only able to see through their illusions but whose claws are capable of inflicting severe to fatal wounds upon them. It is revealed that they also maintain an incestuous relationship.
