Dario Di Palma, né le 6 novembre 1932 à Rome (Latium), ville où il est mort le 24 octobre 2004, est un directeur de la photographie italien.

Biography

Au cinéma (italien ou en coproduction), Dario Di Palma débute dans les années 1950 comme premier assistant opérateur, puis est cadreur au début des années 1960. Mentionnons deux réalisations de Michelangelo Antonioni, Le Cri (1957, premier assistant opérateur) et Le Désert rouge (1964, cadreur).

Son premier film comme chef opérateur principal est Due contro tutti d'Alberto De Martino et Antonio Momplet (1962, avec Walter Chiari) ; le dernier est un documentaire sorti en 1984. Entretemps, citons notamment Le Spécialiste de Sergio Corbucci (1969, avec Johnny Hallyday et Françoise Fabian), Les Clowns de Federico Fellini (1971, avec le réalisateur et Anita Ekberg), ou encore Affreux, sales et méchants d'Ettore Scola (1976).

À la télévision italienne, il est directeur de la photographie sur cinq mini-séries (1975-1988) et quatre téléfilms (1977-1991).

Il est le neveu du chef opérateur Carlo Di Palma (né en 1925) et meurt la même année que lui, en 2004. Il assiste son oncle entre autres sur L'Assassin d'Elio Petri (cadreur, 1961) et Le Désert rouge (1964) précité.

The film tells the grotesque story of a large Apulian family living in an extremely poor shantytown of the periphery of Rome. The protagonist is one-eyed patriarch Giacinto (Manfredi). Four generations of his sons and relatives are cramped together in his shack, managing to get by mainly on thieving and whoring, among other things more or less respectable.

Married couple Anna (Gina Lollobrigida) and Marco (Jean-Louis Trintignant) run a hi-tech automated poultry farm, breeding boneless chickens. Unbeknownst to Anna, Marco is a serial killer, who lures prostitutes to motel rooms before stabbing them. The arrival of Anna's cousin Gabri (Ewa Aulin) further fragments the troubled marriage, as she and Marco begin an affair and conspire to run away together. However, Gabri is actually planning, with her husband Mondaini (Jean Sobieski), to kill Anna and frame Marco, as they have discovered Marco's secret. What Gabri and Mondaini do not know is that Marco's fixation is not with killing prostitutes, but simply hiring them to role-play murders, letting them go safely and handsomely paid. As such, when Anna's murder is discovered, the police focus their attention on Gabri, suspecting her of committing the murder out of sibling jealousy. Marco and Mondaini struggle at the farm, Marco falling into a machine used to grind chicken feed. Gabri and Mondaini are eventually arrested for Anna's murder, as the farm chickens feed on Marco's ground corpse.
