David Cann is an English actor who has had many roles in theatre and television.

He graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in 1973 and spent many years working in theatre, including various Shakespeare plays before eventually branching out into television, including roles in the BBC children's drama Grange Hill.

David Cann has appeared in a number of works by Chris Morris. Cann played various roles in Brass Eye, a spoof current affairs show aired in 1997, and many roles in the disturbing sketch show Jam.

Cann played the character "The Doctor" from Jam, a recurring role in the series. "The Doctor" is a seemingly "normal" physician working in a standard British medical practice. However, he has a habit of treating his patients in bizarre and often disturbing ways, such as prescribing a young girl heroin, making a man with a headache jump up and down in order to make his penis swing (while mirroring the patient's bewildered jumping himself), blinding himself with an intense light in order to avoid awkward questions and insisting on examining a patient by telephone, even though he is in the same room.

In 2003, Cann played another doctor in the popular British soap opera EastEnders.

Cann also had a minor role in Bridget Jones's Diary (2001).

Cann also appeared in the 2007 film "Run Fatboy Run" . In the film Cann was the head of the committee that approved Simon Pegg's entrance into the race.

Cann appeared in the pilot of the comedy Lizzie and Sarah, broadcast on BBC2 in March 2010. The plot centres on a pair of unloved, neglected, middle-aged housewives who are pushed to breaking point. Cann plays one of the husbands, who totally ignores his wife whilst sleeping with the lazy nanny.

Cann again played a doctor in the first episode of Psychoville, series 2 (first broadcast 5 May 2011).

In 2011, Cann voiced the titular Peter Eagleman in the 2011 BAFTA award winning short animated film The Eagleman Stag.

The film begins in September 2008 (opening against the backdrop of news of the Islamabad Marriott Hotel bombing) with an elderly Lady Thatcher buying milk unrecognized by other customers and walking back from the shop alone. Over the course of three days, we see her struggle with dementia and with the lack of power that comes with old age, while looking back on defining moments of her personal and professional life, on which she reminisces with her (now-dead) husband, Denis Thatcher, whose death she is unable to fully accept. She is shown as having difficulty distinguishing between the past and present. A theme throughout the film is the personal price that Thatcher has paid for power. Denis is portrayed as somewhat ambivalent about his wife's rise to power, her son Mark lives in South Africa and is shown as having little contact with his mother, and Thatcher's relationship with her daughter Carol is at times strained.

Dennis Doyle (Simon Pegg) is about to marry Libby (Thandie Newton), his pregnant fiancée. However, he gets cold feet and runs away on the day of the wedding. Five years later, Dennis discovers that Libby, who has their son, Jake, has started seeing high-flying go-getter Whit (Hank Azaria) and realizes what he has lost. He finds out that Whit is running the Nike River Marathon in London, and to prove himself to his doubting friends and, most importantly, Libby and his son, he decides to run the race himself. He receives motivation from his two "coaches", Gordon (Dylan Moran), a well-meaning slacker who is Libby's cousin and Dennis' best friend, who has made a hefty bet on Dennis succeeding, and Mr. Ghosh Dastidar (Harish Patel) his landlord, who uses unorthodox methods of training, such as using a spatula to spank him. Days before the race, Whit proposes to Libby at her birthday party. Libby accepts and this puts Dennis in a state of deep depression. Meanwhile, Jake, who has formed a crush on a girl in his class, runs away angry when he discovers that she prefers another boy just because he has a ponytail. Dennis, upon being informed by a frightened Libby, tracks him down and explains to him that he will find many things he does not like in his life and he should just stand up to them and face them, rather than running away. Having made that mistake himself, he decides to race after all.
