David Neville Ffolkes, né à Hagley (comté de Worcestershire, Angleterre) le 12 octobre 1912 et mort en 1966, est un créateur de costumes britanniques.

Biography

David Ffolkes se rend aux États-Unis avant la Seconde Guerre mondiale en tant que scénographe avec la compagnie Shakespeare de Maurice Evans. Lorsque la guerre éclate, il est nommé lieutenant dans l'armée britannique et stationné à Singapour. Il est capturé par les Japonais lors de la chute de Singapour et passe trois ans dans un camp de prisonniers japonais en Birmanie où il doit construire une ligne de chemin de fer. Après sa libération, il retourne aux États-Unis et enseigne la scénographie et la conception de costumes au Boston College, puis commence une carrière de créateur de costumes.

Diana Scott (Julie Christie) is a beautiful, bored young model married to Tony Bridges (Trevor Bowen). The story centres on an immense golden bell named The Mother of Voices, which may or may not exist. Moorish king Aly Mansuh (Sidney Poitier) is convinced that it does. Having collected all the legendary material about it that he can, he plans to mount an expedition to search for it. When the shipwrecked Norseman, Rolfe (Richard Widmark), repeats the story of the bell in the marketplace, and hints that he knows its location, he is seized by Mansuh's men and brought in for questioning. Rolfe insists that he does not know and that the bell is only a myth. He manages to escape before the questioning continues under torture.
