Brown s'engage dans l'armée en juillet 1941 et en 1942 il rejoint l'équipe du magazine de l'armée Yank où il écrit sous un pseudonyme. Il écrit aussi une pièce A Sound of Hunting, qui sera portée à l'écran sous le titre Huit Hommes de fer (Eight Iron Men). Lewis Milestone lui demande de venir à Hollywood comme scénariste, ce qu'il fera jusqu'à la fin des années 1960.
Il prend alors sa retraite et vit quelques années au Mexique, avant de revenir en Californie.
En 2001, il sera crédité comme scénariste pour Ocean's Eleven, le film de Steven Soderbergh, remake du film L'Inconnu de Las Vegas (Ocean's Eleven) de Lewis Milestone.

Biography
Harry Brown fait ses études à l'Université Harvard, mais la quitte avant son diplôme. Il écrit alors de la poésie et travaille pour Time Magazine et le New Yorker. Il publie en 1941 The Poem of Bunker Hill, un poème épique de 158 pages qui lui attire les louanges de la critique, et un roman, The End of a Decade.Brown s'engage dans l'armée en juillet 1941 et en 1942 il rejoint l'équipe du magazine de l'armée Yank où il écrit sous un pseudonyme. Following release from prison, Daniel "Danny" Ocean (George Clooney) violates his parole by traveling to California to meet his partner-in-crime and friend Rusty Ryan (Brad Pitt) to propose a caper. The two go to Las Vegas to pitch the plan to wealthy friend and former casino owner Reuben Tishkoff (Elliott Gould). The plan consists of simultaneously robbing the Bellagio, The Mirage, and the MGM Grand casinos. Reuben's familiarity with casino security makes him very reluctant to get involved, but when he starts to think of it as a good way to get back at his rival, Terry Benedict (Andy García), who owns all three casinos, Reuben agrees to finance the operation. Because the casinos are required by the Nevada Gaming Commission to have enough cash on hand to cover all their patrons' bets, the three predict that, on the upcoming night of a highly anticipated boxing match, the Bellagio vault will contain more than $150,000,000.

In September 1942, during World War II, Susan Cahill (Dianne Foster), art director for an ad agency on Madison Avenue run by her fiance, is jealous of his business flirtation with a client's daughter to secure a deal. In 1945, on a Pacific island, Sam Gifford (Wagner) is busted from platoon sergeant to private and reprimanded by his battalion commander for striking an officer. Because he had earned a Silver Star, he is given a choice of being sentenced to the United States Disciplinary Barracks in Leavenworth or transferred to George Company, a de facto punishment company assigned to a dangerous area of the front lines. Gifford chooses the punishment company, which is commanded by Captain Grimes, a former First Sergeant (Broderick Crawford). Captain Grimes insists everyone call him "Waco", wears no rank insignia and forbids military salutes lest he become a target for snipers. Everyone in George Company hates Waco except for some pre-war regular army comrades-in-arms Millard (Frank Gorshin) and Swanson (Skip Homeier), who act as Waco's personal bodyguards. Impressed by Gifford's combat record, Waco offers him a membership in his private circle as a radio operator. This ends when Gifford beats up Swanson for making suggestive remarks about his wife's photograph. Waco burns the photograph. The incident triggers flashbacks in which Sam relives the path that brought him to this purgatory.
