Jack Rice (May 14, 1893 – December 14, 1968) was an American actor best known for appearing as the scrounging, freeloading brother-in-law in Edgar Kennedy's series of short domestic comedy films at the RKO studio, and also as "Ollie" in around a dozen of Columbia Pictures's series of the Blondie comic strip.

Born in Michigan, Rice first appeared in films in 1933 and played roles in many shorts, feature films and TV. A versatile character actor with an extenisve resume both in motion pictures and television, Rice appeared in the films Son of Flubber (1963), That Touch of Mink (1962), Ransom!" (1956), The Spirit of 1976 (1935), "The Pride of St. Louis (1952), Blondie's Big Deal (1949), Little Orphan Annie (1938), Walking on Air (1936), The 30 Foot Bride of Candy Rock (1959) and in the television programs, Bonanza, Checkmate and I Love Lucy.

Artie Pinsetter (Lou Costello) is a junk collector and amateur inventor who lives in the desert town of Candy Rock. Artie's fiancée, Emmy Lou Raven (Dorothy Provine), is exposed to radiation in a cave and is changed thereby into a thirty-foot giantess. When Artie nervously explains to his betrothed's rich uncle that she has gotten "big," the uncle misunderstands "big" as "pregnant," and insists that Artie marry her immediately. Artie eventually manages to restore her to her normal size.

A scout for the St. Louis Cardinals comes to a small town in the Ozarks to assess pitcher Jerome Herman Dean (Dailey). Dean, with an over-abundance of self-confidence, is certain that the club wants him to start immediately and is surprised that he is sent to the minor league Houston Buffaloes. Despite his obvious talents, Dean is teased about his rustic clothes and goes to a department store to buy new suits. He meets pretty credit officer Patricia Nash (Dru) and courts her with great vigor. At an exhibition between the Buffaloes and the Chicago White Sox, Dean is dismayed to see Pat with another man but pitches an almost perfect game. The White Sox players razz Dean, calling him "Dizzy," but he adopts the nickname, which is picked up by sports reporters. Dean asks Pat to elope, and although she is stunned by his proposal, agrees to marry him.

Unscrupulous newspaper photographer Jack Early (Duff) is sent to take a picture of racketeer Nick Palmer (Brian Donlevy), who doesn't like to be captured on celluloid. Palmer takes a liking to Early and asks him to frame his henchmen Colton (Tierney). Duff double-crosses Palmer and informes Colton that his boss had planned to frame him. Shortly afterward Palmer is killed by a car bomb and Duff becomes famous for taking a picture of the event. Eventually Duff is himself killed by Colton but he manages to snap a picture of his murderer in the act.

Ted's (Michael Duane) car breaks down in a small town. He leaves his fiancee Alice (Lenore Aubert) at a hotel while he goes to the next town to get his car fixed. When he returns the next morning, she is missing. He requests to speak with the night clerk who tells him she checked out 30 minutes after he left the night before. He has a slight altercation with the night clerk at which point the police are summoned. The police do not suspect foul play and ask Ted to leave the hotel. When he leaves, a private detective, Gaylord Traynor (Richard Lane) follows him and offers his services to locate Ted's fiancee. On the drive back to the city and Ted's apartment, Ted tells Mr. Taynor the story of how they met and Mr. Traynor implies Ted has been conned. When they arrive at Ted's apartment all of Alice's belongings are still there. Ted gives Mr. Traynor a picture of Alice and finds her marriage certificate. Mr. Taynor knocks out Ted, steals the marriage certificate and leaves. It seems that Mr. Traynor was working for Mr. Barkley to find Alice and retrieve the marriage certificate.

Bill Baker (Bill Williams) has recently returned from war service as an aerial gunner in the Pacific where he had been hospitalized for mental illness.
