James Wilkes Noble (born March 5, 1922) is an American actor, born in Dallas, Texas, best known for his portrayal of Governor Eugene Gatling on the 1980s sitcom Benson.

Biography

James Noble est le fils de Lois Frances (née Wilkes) et Ralph Byrne Noble.

Il étudie le théâtre et l'ingénierie à l'université méthodiste du Sud, avant de la quitter pour servir dans la marine des États-Unis au cours de la Seconde Guerre mondiale.

Après son retour de la guerre, Noble étudie le théâtre avec Lee Strasberg et fait des apparitions dans des théâtres de Broadway. Sa carrière de télévision commence dans des feuilletons, comme The Brighter Day , As the World Turns, The Doctors et Un monde à part. Ses rôles grand écran incluent : le révérend John Witherspoon dans la version cinématographique de la comédie musicale de Broadway 1776 (1972), les rôles variés que les médecins dans des films tels que One Summer Love (1976), Elle (1979) et Promises in the Dark (1979), Kaufman, chef d'état-major du président, dans Bienvenue, mister Chance (1979), le père O'Flanagan dans la comédie suite Y a-t-il enfin un pilote dans l'avion ? Young D.A. Louie Jeffries is hit by a car and dies in 1964, but manages to slip by the pearly gates and is instantly reborn. Alex Delaware, a Los Angeles psychiatrist, testifies for the prosecution in the trial of an accused child molester. Later the defendant, who is out on bail, is found dead in the psychiatrist's office, in what appears to be a suicide. Shaken, the psychiatrist moves to the mountains outside of L.A. Jack Dempsey starts out fighting in bars for half the take. He wins his first professional fight. After a later bout, he and his manager are held up at gunpoint and robbed of the purse. He sees the thieves later and beats them up to recover the cash. Jack meets Maxine Cates, but goes to New York to box. After a bout with Jack Johnson is a draw, he breaks with his manager and goes back to Salt Lake City and marries Maxine. After money disputes with her Maxine leaves and Dempsey goes to San Francisco. Kerns becomes his manager. He wins fights goes to New York and divorces Maxine. He beats Jess Willard by a TKO and becomes heavyweight champ. He goes to Hollywood to make films and gets sued for non-support by Maxine. He fights Luis Firpo and is knocked out of the ring, but still wins. He is sick (perhaps poisoned), but still fights Gene Tunney and loses in a TKO. On September 22, 1927 he fights Tunney again. Dempsey knocks Tunney down, but the count doesn't start until Dempsey goes to a neutral corner. This gives Tunney time to recover and get up when the count reaches 9. In this famous "long count" fight Tunney wins by decision.
