Jennifer Shrader Lawrence (born August 15, 1990) is an American actress. Her first major role was as a lead cast member on the TBS sitcom The Bill Engvall Show (2007–09). She appeared in the independent drama Winter's Bone (2010) while her first commercial success was the superhero film X-Men: First Class (2011).
Lawrence gained international fame for playing heroine Katniss Everdeen in the Hunger Games film series (2012–15), which established her as the highest-grossing action heroine as of 2015. She starred in David O. Russell's romantic comedy Silver Linings Playbook (2012), for which she won a Golden Globe Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and the Academy Award for Best Actress, becoming the second-youngest Best Actress Oscar winner. For her supporting role in Russell's comedy-drama American Hustle (2013), she won a BAFTA Award and a Golden Globe Award.
On August 31, 2014, nude photographs of Lawrence were leaked online, believed to be obtained from her iCloud account by a hacker. Lawrence confirmed that the photographs are real. Emphasizing that the images were never meant to be public, she called the leak a "sex crime" and a "sexual violation", telling Vanity Fair in October 2014, "Anybody who looked at those pictures, you're perpetuating a sexual offense. You should cower with shame." She said she feels similarly regarding people she knows and loves, adding, "I don't want to get mad, but at the same time I'm thinking, I didn't tell you that you could look at my naked body."
Lawrence is active in charities such as the World Food Programme, Feeding America, and The Thirst Project. Lawrence grew up in rural Kentucky around horses: "Growing up, I lived 15 minutes away from a horse farm, and I went there almost every day... My brothers were into fishing, but I was all about the horses." In an interview with David Letterman she stated: "My parents were cheap so they never bought trained horses. In the future, robots known as Sentinels are exterminating mutants and their human allies. A band of mutants, including Kitty Pryde, Colossus, Iceman, Bishop, Warpath, Blink and Sunspot, evade the Sentinels due to Pryde's ability to send a person's consciousness to the past. Pryde's group convenes with Logan, Storm, Professor Charles Xavier, and Erik Lehnsherr at a monastery in China. Pryde sends Logan's consciousness 50 years back in time to 1973 to prevent Mystique from assassinating Dr. Bolivar Trask, creator of the Sentinels. After being rescued from the destroyed arena in the 75th Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen, along with fellow Victors Beetee and Finnick Odair, are taken to District 13, an independent district isolated from the rest of Panem that has been spearheading the rebellion, where she is reunited with her mother and sister Prim. While recuperating, she is introduced to President Alma Coin, the rebel leader, and is told that her actions in the arena sparked riots and strikes against the Capitol. Coin asks her if she will become the "Mockingjay"—the symbol of the rebellion—as part of their "hearts and minds" strategy. Katniss flatly declines, angrily reminding her that they left Peeta Mellark, her portrayed lover and fellow District 12 tribute, behind in the arena. At the suggestion of Plutarch Heavensbee, the former Gamemaker, she is taken to see the ruins of District 12, which was completely leveled by a Capitol bombing campaign (with the exception of the houses in the Victor's Village). After seeing that Peeta is being used by Capitol state television to quell the rebellion, Katniss reluctantly changes her mind and agrees to become Coin's Mockingjay, on the condition that Peeta and the other victors will be rescued and pardoned at the earliest opportunity, and that her sister, Prim, will be allowed to keep her cat.
