K. T. Kunjumon (Tamil: கே.டி.குன்ஜுமொன்; born on 15 November 1953) is a Tamil film producer and writer. Among the 11 films produced so far Gentleman was his first major hit, setting many records for Tamil film production. Later Kaadhalan and Kadhal Desam were also successful. Ratchagan remained the most expensive film in Tamil film industry till 1998. Notably A. R. Rahman composed the music for these films.

Vijay is the managing director of a large shipping corporation. He lives in a joint family with his father (Nambiar), two brothers (Radharavi and Dhamu), their wives and children and a spinster sister (Banupriya). He goes to Switzerland to stipulate a contract with Nizhalgal Ravi and Raghuvaran. There he meets Rambha, Ravi's sister. The two fall in love. Ravi approves of Vijay but when he expresses the condition that Vijay should stay with them after the marriage because India is not good, he refuses his offer and returns home. But later Raghuvaran and Rambha travel to India to mend fences. Raghuvaran learns that Banupriya had been dumped by Ravi for a better life and Vijay is just waiting for an opportunity to kill the man who destroyed his sister's life. He devises ways of preventing Ravi from attending the marriage but later he tells Banupriya the truth. Vijay overhears this and is angered, but Raghuvaran solves all the problems by deciding to marry Banupriya. Banupriya agrees for this too, making everyone happy. Finally Vijay, seeing his sister happy leaves Ravi alone. Eventually Rambha and Vijay get married.

Siluvai (Vijay) is the son of Cruz (Vinu Chakravarthy). They are Christians living in a fishing village. In another town, Perumaal (Jaiganesh) is the father to Sangeetha (Suvalakshmi) and Gauri. Sangheeta comes to the small fishing village. Raghuvaran is proposed (and later engaged) to marry her. However, Gauri, falls in love with Raghuvaran's friend and after hearing that their father Jaiganesh doesn't want to accept the Hindu-Christian marriage, she decides to elope with her lover. This leads to the breakup of Sangeetha and Siluvai's love affair. However Raghuvaran, upon hearing Siluvai's story, gives a great speech to the villagers and unites Siluvai and Sangeetha.

Ajay (Nagarjuna) is an unemployed youth who always gets into trouble because of his temper. This angry young man gets heated up when he encounters anyone committing a crime; he takes the law into his own hands, beats them up and then gives them some free advice. Ajay’s father (S. P. Balasubrahmanyam), who works for an insurance firm, is very unhappy with his son’s attitude, and tries his best to change Ajay's attitude through a meditation expert but he fails in this matter as the expert suggests that Ajay's anguish is reasonable. Ajay meets Sonia (Sushmita Sen) through his father, and Sonia falls in love with him. What Sonia likes about Ajay is his temper and anger when he encounters anything which is against the law. Sonia gets Ajay’s father's help to get Ajay to love her. Still, Ajay is not interested in her and seriously rejects her at first; but he later changes his mind after going through some unusual situations, and love blossoms between them.

In the city of Chennai traditional rivalry has always existed between the students of Pachaiyappas and Loyola colleges respectively. Karthik (Vineeth) is poor and an orphan, who studies in Pachaiyappa's College, lives in a rented room, travels by the bus, hangs out with a number of friends, and is the Captain of his football team. He is also a good poet and daydreams about his dream girl. Arun (Abbas), on the other hand, comes from a rich and wealthy family, studies in Loyola College, drives his own car, hangs out with number of friends, and is also the Captain of his football team. In a nasty intercollege riot Arun saves Karthik's life. So in return Karthik lets Arun win in a soccer game because he thinks Arun can't take losses easily.

Prabhu, the chairman of Chennai's Government Arts College, is asked by his Principal to invite the Governor of Tamil Nadu, Kakarlal Sathyanarayana Moorthy, to be the chief guest on the annual day of the college. When he goes to invite Kakarlal, he bumps into his daughter, Shruthi, instantly falling in love with her. To propose his love for her, he even joins in the same dance class as her. She too subsequently gets to know more about him and falls in love with him. Since there is considerable fear of terrorism in the state, Kakarlal does not permit his daughter to travel anywhere without bodyguards. On one occasion, she manages to give them the slip and runs away with Prabhu at a dance festival. Shortly after, there is the threat of a bomb being planted. Shruthi is immediately brought home and Prabhu is arrested. Shruthi is forbidden to see Prabhu. After being beaten severely, Prabhu is released from police custody and taken back home, tended by his police father Kathiresan. He then goes to meet Shruthi unaware of the changed circumstances. This is where he finds evidence that will lead him to a hideout of bomb specialist Mallikarjuna who is the mastermind of all the bomb blasts. Prabhu realizes that Mallikarjuna has been working for Kakarlal to kill innocent civilians with bombs. Kakarlal pays Mallikarjuna to put a bomb in Government General Hospital. Kakarlal betrays Mallikarjuna by killing him with a (bomb radio). Unfortunately, Mallikarjuna survives but he's wounded. Mallikarjuna changes the time, so the bomb can explode earlier. When Kakarlal shows up, he realizes that Mallikarjuna's still alive but Mallikarjuna disappears again. Prabhu and other people take the patients out of the Government General Hospital. Kakarlal, Kakarlal's wife, and Shruthi get stuck in an elevator. Prabhu finds the bomb and manages to get out of the hospital as soon as possible, so he can throw the bomb off the bridge into the water. The bomb explodes in the water. After Shruthi gets out of the elevator, a wounded Mallikarjuna breaks from the top and electrocutes Kakarlal to death. Mallikarjuna also dies because of blood loss. The film ends with the reunion of Prabhu and Shruthi. It's presumed that Prabhu and Shruthi got married.
