Michelle Maxwell MacLaren is a Canadian television director and producer who has worked on numerous series both in Canada and the United States, and is perhaps best known for her work on shows such as The X-Files, Breaking Bad, Frank Darabont's series The Walking Dead and HBO's series Game of Thrones. She was raised in Vancouver, British Columbia. She was nominated for five Primetime Emmy Awards; one 2010 for directing a season three episode of Breaking Bad entitled One Minute, one in 2013 for directing the season five episode Gliding Over All, and the other three 2010, 2012, and 2013 for Outstanding Drama Series (Breaking Bad), on which she serves as an executive producer. She won in 2013. She was also nominated for two PGA Awards with Breaking Bad.

Steve Kady (Jeremy Sisto), a US Census Bureau researcher is sent to the remote and seemingly idyllic village of Rockwell Falls to interview residents concerning the population. On the way to Rockwell Falls he is distracted by a woman falling off a horse and his vehicle hits a pothole and bursts two tires. He is eventually picked up by Bobby Caine (Fred Durst), the Sheriff's Deputy, who drives him into Rockwell Falls and helps him find a place to stay.

Ritter plays Ed Chandler, a father who is fired from his job for taking time off to tend to his 16 year daughter Missy (Chlumsky), who is battling cancer. Rather than accepting his dismissal, Ed decides to fight back. With the help of a United States senator, he lobbies the United States Congress and is the stimulus to passage of the Family and Medical Leave Act. Because Missy's cancer is terminal, she is visited by the Make-A-Wish Foundation and she wishes to go to the White House and visit the Oval Office and hopefully see President Bill Clinton himself. Although Make-A-Wish is not so sure if they can grant her wish, in the end she does in fact get to visit the Oval Office and meet President Clinton himself in a surprise cameo appearance.

When Nora McGill (Van Ark) is turned down for a loan officer position at the bank she works, by her boss Travis (McNulty), she starts to suffer from a mild depression. Her husband Harry (Macht) and teenage daughter Kim (Langton) start to estrange from Nora, as she becomes more bothered by chronic pains. A visit from her doctor (Walker) confuses her, as Dr. Jaffe is not able to diagnose any medical problems. She is then contacted by psychotherapist Dr. Brian Allen, who suggests her to visit one of his sessions. Virginia congressman Gene York (Michael Woods) and his attorney wife Karen (Faye Grant), after numerous failed attempts to have children, go to a nun-owned orphanage where they adopt a child that they name Delia from a nun named Sister Yvonne. At first, other than Delia scratching Karen and the later heart attack of the preacher overseeing her baptism, all seems normal. But seven years later, after the Yorks adopt a rottweiler that they name Ryder, Delia (Asia Vieira) starts to display the traits and personality of an increasingly violent and manipulative sociopath. Furthermore, as the family doctor Hastings reveals that she is going through puberty, strange events begin to occur around Delia, including the death of the father of a boy whom she terrorized. Jo Thueson, a New Age practitioner hired by the Yorks as a nanny to help while Gene runs for the Senate, senses something suspicious about Delia after finding her healing crystals blackened by the girl's touch.
