Nuri Bilge Ceylan ([ˈnuːri ˈbilɟe ˈdʒejlan]; born 26 January 1959 in Istanbul) is a Turkish photographer, screenwriter, actor and film director. He is married to filmmaker, photographer, and actress Ebru Ceylan with whom he co-starred in Climates.
Nuages de mai est sélectionné en compétition à la Berlinale 2000. Uzak (Lointain en français) obtient le Grand Prix du jury et le Prix d'interprétation masculine pour ses deux comédiens principaux au Festival de Cannes 2003. Les Climats entre dans la compétition du Festival de Cannes 2006 et se voit décerner le Prix FIPRESCI. Les Trois Singes vaut ensuite à Ceylan le Prix de la mise en scène cannois en 2008 et Once Upon a Time in Anatolia lui apporte un nouveau Grand Prix en 2011. En 2014, il reçoit la Palme d'or pour Winter Sleep (Kış Uykusu). Ceylan est souvent considéré comme la figure de proue du cinéma turc : Les Cahiers du cinéma le présente comme le réalisateur le plus représentatif et le plus connu de son pays. Son film Le Poirier sauvage (Ahlat Ağacı) est sélectionné en compétition officielle au Festival de Cannes 2018, mais il ne reçoit aucun prix malgré un accueil très positif de la presse.

Biography
Il est diplômé de l'université du Bosphore en ingénierie électrique et poursuit ensuite des études de cinéma à l'université des beaux-arts Mimar-Sinan. Son court métrage Koza concourt pour la Palme d'or du court métrage au Festival de Cannes 1995. Il obtient ensuite plusieurs récompenses pour son premier long métrage, Kasaba, sorti en 1998.Nuages de mai est sélectionné en compétition à la Berlinale 2000. Uzak (Lointain en français) obtient le Grand Prix du jury et le Prix d'interprétation masculine pour ses deux comédiens principaux au Festival de Cannes 2003. The couple go their separate ways and Bahar tells him not to call.

Through the night, three cars carry a small group of men – police officers, a doctor, a prosecutor, grave diggers, gendarmerie forces, and two brothers, homicide suspects – around in the rural surroundings of the Anatolian town Keskin, in search of a buried body. Kenan, one of the suspects, leads them from one water fountain to another; at the time of the crime he was drunk and he cannot recall where he and his mentally challenged brother buried the body. Uzak tells the story of Yusuf (Mehmet Emin Toprak), a young factory worker who loses his job and travels to Istanbul to stay with his relative Mahmut (Muzaffer Özdemir) while looking for a job. Mahmut is a relatively wealthy and intellectual photographer, whereas Yusuf is almost illiterate, uneducated, and unsophisticated. The two do not get along well. Yusuf assumes that he will easily find work as a sailor, but there are no jobs, and he has no sense of direction or energy. Meanwhile, Mahmut, despite his wealth, is aimless too: his job, which consists of photographing tiles, is dull and inartistic, he can barely express emotions towards his ex-wife or his lover, and while he pretends to enjoy intellectual filmmakers like Andrei Tarkovsky, he switches channels to watch porn as soon as Yusuf leaves the room.
