Oskar Roehler (born January 21, 1959) is a German film director, screen writer and journalist. He was born in Starnberg as the son of writer Gisela Elsner and the writer Klaus Roehler. Since the mid-1980s he has been working as a screenwriter, for, among others, Niklaus Schilling, Christoph Schlingensief and Mark Schlichter. Since the early 1990s he has also been working as a film director. For his film No Place to Go he won the Deutscher Filmpreis. His 2010 film Jew Suss: Rise and Fall was nominated for the Golden Bear at the 60th Berlin International Film Festival.

Oskar Roehler est le fils des écrivains anticonformistes Gisela Elsner et Klaus Roehler, membres du célèbre collectif littéraire d'après-guerre Gruppe 47. Enfant non désiré, il sera élevé par sa grand-mère. Il a grandi entre Rome, Londres et Nuremberg, pour devenir journaliste à Berlin après son bac. Il commence au début des années 1990 à écrire des scénarios, puis se lance dans la réalisation (premier film en 1995).Best films

Berlin, 1939. Joseph Goebbels, ministre de la propagande nazie, commandite un film qui, selon lui, doit présenter un haut niveau artistique tout en instruisant le peuple allemand contre la « juiverie ». Il choisit l'acteur de second rang d'origine autrichienne Ferdinand Marian pour interpréter le rôle-titre du film Jud Süss, rôle qui doit véhiculer tous les poncifs antisémites. Marian, initialement très réticent, accepte finalement le rôle. Grâce au succès du film, il devient malgré lui une vedette du cinéma du IIIe Reich. Mais la chute du régime entraîne aussi la fin de sa carrière et l'éclatement de sa famille car il restera irrémédiablement associé au plus grand film de propagande nazie.
