Patricia Ann Hodge (born 29 September 1946) is an English actress. She made her West End debut in 1972 and starred in the 1973 West End production of Pippin, directed by Bob Fosse. She received two Olivier Award nominations for Best Actress in a Musical, before winning the 2000 Olivier Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the play Money.

Her screen roles include the 1983 film version of Harold Pinter's play Betrayal, the TV series Rumpole of the Bailey (1978–1992), the 1986 TV adaptation of The Life and Loves of a She-Devil and the TV film Hotel du Lac (1986), for which she received a Best Actress BAFTA TV Award nomination. From 2009 to 2014, she starred in the BBC sitcom Miranda.

Biography

Hodge married music publisher Peter Douglas Owen on 31 July 1976 in Tonbridge. The couple have two children: Alexander Richard Charles (born March 1989); and Edward Frederick James (born January 1992).

A brash American actor, Robin Grange, goes to London to feature in a major new play. The playwright of the production, Felix Webb, is having an intense affair with the leading lady, Hilary Rule. His wife of fourteen years, Eleanor, suspects that her husband is cheating and cannot suppress her rage. Robin comes up with an intriguing plan; to seduce Felix's elegant wife to end hassling her husband. In desperation, Felix agrees, but soon faces a dilemma in that he feels increasingly jealous of Robin's attempts to seduce his willing wife, especially when he charms (and attempts to seduce) Hilary and the other members of the production and becomes too popular at Felix's expense. Felix is caught in a web of deceit and jealousy, prompting him to seek revenge on the opening night of his new production.

In Hollywood in the late 1920s during the waning days of the industry's transition to sound film, producer and studio head Alfie Alperin wants to produce a great Western movie about Wyatt Earp. London Hospital surgeon Frederick Treves finds John Merrick in a Victorian freak show in London's East End, where he is kept by Mr. Bytes. His head is always hooded, and his "owner," who views him as retarded, is paid by Treves to bring him to the hospital for exams. He shows Merrick to his colleagues and highlights his monstrous skull, which forces him to sleep with his head on his knees, since if he were to lie down, he would asphyxiate. On Merrick’s return he is beaten so hard by Bytes that an apprentice calls Treves to bring him back to hospital.
