Sally Forrest (born Katherine Feeney; May 28, 1928 – March 15, 2015), was an American film, stage and TV actress of the 1940s and 1950s.

Biography

Sally Forrest débute au cinéma en 1946 et interprète d'abord des petits rôles non crédités de danseuse dans quatre films produits par la Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. En 1949, elle obtient ses premiers rôles de composition et rencontre la réalisatrice Ida Lupino, pour laquelle elle tourne trois films (deux cette même année 1949, le troisième en 1951). En tout, elle apparaît dans vingt-deux films américains, les deux derniers en 1956 (dont La Cinquième Victime de Fritz Lang, où elle retrouve Ida Lupino, cette fois actrice). Un de ses films les mieux connus, hormis celui de Lang, est le western La Vallée de la vengeance (1951), aux côtés de Burt Lancaster, Joanne Dru et Robert Walker.

À la télévision, Sally Forrest participe à dix-sept séries, entre 1952 et 1967, année où elle se retire.

Au théâtre, elle joue à Broadway dans une pièce à succès de George Axelrod (représentée 1 141 fois de 1952 à 1955), Sept Ans de réflexion (The Seven Year Itch), où elle interprète en remplacement le rôle qui sera repris par Marilyn Monroe dans l'adaptation au cinéma de 1955.

In ancient Baghdad, poet Omar Khayyám wanders the streets in search of his friend, Sinbad, the son and namesake of Sinbad the Sailor, and finds him outside the Khalif's palace. Although the Khalif has offered a reward for his capture, the roguish Sinbad ignores Omar's warnings and nonchalantly sneaks into the palace. Alain, the Sire de Maletroit (Laughton), plots revenge on his younger brother Edmund (Cavanagh) for stealing Alain's childhood sweetheart, now deceased. Alain imprisons Edmund in a dungeon for 20 years. He then convinces Edmund's grown daughter Blanche (Forrest) that her father is dead. As Blanche's mother (Alain's lost love) died in childbirth, Maletroit intends to further antagonize Blanche by reducing her life to a miserable hell. As the film begins, he tricks a high-born drunken cad, Denis de Beaulieu (Richard Stapley), to pass through the sole, exterior door of the Maletroit chateau, which has no latch handle on the inside, making him a captive, with the intent of forcing the delicate Blanche into marriage with him. However, Denis has unanticipated redemptive qualities, and he and Blanche fall in love. Their attempt to escape is initially foiled by Alain, who seals Edmund, Blanche and Denis in a stone deathtrap designed to crush the lot of them. Maletroit's disloyal manservant Voltan (Karloff) comes to their aid and dies effecting the escape of Denis, Blanche and her father from a dungeon cell, the walls of which are crushing in on them under pressure of river water churned against them by a water wheel on the chateau.
