Samarla Venkata Ranga Rao (3 July 1918 – 18 July 1974) popularly Known as S.V.R. was an Indian film actor, director and producer known for his works in Telugu and Tamil cinema. Widely recognized as one of the finest Indian method actors, Rao was popularly known as "Viswa Nata Chakravarthi." He was known for his natural acting and for portraying versatile roles of Hindu mythological characters like Ravana, Ghatotkacha, Duryodhana, Kamsa and Kichaka from Indian Mythology. In 1963, He garnered the Best Actor Award for his portrayal of Kichaka in Nartanasala at the Afro-Asian Film Festival Held in Jakarta. He has garnered the erstwhile Rashtrapati Award, five times for acting in Telugu and Tamil cinema.

Biography

He has married Leelavati, daughter of Badeti Venkata Ramaiah and Koteswaramma on December 27, 1947. They had three children: two daughters, Vijaya and Prameela and a son, Koteswara Rao.

Pilot Ashok (Sivaji Ganesan) is in love with Sivakami (Vanisri). They have an affair and Sivakami becomes pregnant. Ashok dies in a plane crash. Sivakami tells her father about her pregnancy. But soon he dies too. Sivakami is now on her own with her new born child whom she gives to a rich family to look after. She works there as a servant and she tells the rich person about her past. She emphasizes that this must not be told to his wife who is fond of the child. He promises her that he wouldn't. Meanwhile, the wife's brother R.S.Manohar sees Sivakami and wants to marry her. When she rejects his proposal, he tries to rape her. Her son kills him with a knife. The child runs away leaving Sivakami with the knife. Sivakami goes to prison as she confesses to the murder. She is released twenty years later. Meanwhile, the rich man's wife finds out about Sivakami's history from her husband. She is shocked and wants her to be immediately released from prison. Sivakami returns to their home. A girl living there Latha sees Sivakami. They get along well. She takes Sivakami to the airport to meet her fiancé who turns out to be Sivakami's son Sivaji Ganesan. However he doesn't recognise her as he was much younger when he saw her last time. One day he finds a diary and sees pictures of his father, his mother and himself with his mother. Then he remembers Sivakami and asks her to come to his awards ceremony. During the ceremony, he asks his mother to present him the award to which she obliges. The film ends with both Sivaji Ganesan and Vanisri on the stage.

Rangaiah (Ranga Rao) is a labourer. He is determined to educate his son Anand (Satyanarayana) and make him a doctor and marry Anand with his sister's daughter Suguna (Chandrakala) as promised to his sister on death-bed. During a football match at school, some schoolboys breaks the statue of the school's founder. Raju is held responsible for this. He is given two choices, either pay for the damage or face expulsion. The boys get together and earn the money by polishing boots, selling lottery tickets and so on. The school's principal gets impressed with this and the management decides to repair the statue with their own money and spend the money earned by the boys for an excursion. Shortly afterwards during another football match they break the statue again.

This Hindu mythological movie is based on Lord Anjaneya's devotion towards Lord Rama who later finds Rama in Lord Krishna. The movie begins with how the pride of Pandavas (Arjuna & Bhima) is destroyed by Hanuma and later Garuda in search of his daily food and finds a Nagakanya as his prey. Nagakanya is guided by Narada to go to Hanuma for help where she becomes safe. Garuda reports this to Lord Krishna and his wives Rukmini & Sathyabhama. Krishna sends out a warning to Hanuma to release Nagakanya for garuda's prey. But Hanuma doesn't care for his warning & continues to protect Nagakanya. This leads to a war between them as Hanuma doesn't recognise Rama in Krishna at first. Sathyabhama disguised as Sita tries to mislead Hanuma but fails. Later how the war gets stopped and Nagakanya is saved forms the rest of the story.
