The movie opens with a scene from a high school graduation, Jade Butterfield (Gabriella Wilde), a shy but beautiful young woman, is graduating and will be attending Brown University in the fall. The kids of small-time crook Jack Charles (Patrick Swayze) are put in a corrupt state-run home called Bigelow Hall when their mother dies of cancer.
