Le film Kalank se situe en 1945 dans une Inde pré-indépendante, où le monde solennel, élitiste et opulent de la famille Chaudhry, et celui de Hira Mandi, le quartier pauvre, sauvage, mystérieux et musical de la ville, s’affrontent lorsque Roop Chaudhry rencontre Zafar, forgeron casse-cou, bagarreur et coureur de jupons. De nombreuses vérités cachées commencent à se dévoiler à mesure que les tensions communautaires augmentent et que la partition se rapproche. Roop a contracté un mariage de raison avec Dev Chaudhry à la demande de Satya, sa femme mourante. Zafar est le demi-frère illégitime de Dev, et ne vit que pour se venger de son père qui l’a rejeté et est également responsable de son abandon par sa mère. Roop tombe éperdument amoureuse de Zafar qui, bien que s’étant rapproché d’elle pour servir sa vengeance, finit, sans vouloir l’admettre, par partager ses sentiments. Ils se retrouvent pris sur le champ de bataille de l'amour pendant que toute la ville est à feu et à sang. La question est de savoir si cet amour fou s’éteindra dans le rouge de la violence ou s’épanouira dans celui de l’amour.

The film opens in UK where Colonel Viren Nanda (Jimmy Shergill) goes to meet a wanted terrorist Omar Zafar (Danny Denzongpa) in his holding cell. As Viren informs Zaffar that he will be extradited back to India for his crimes, Zafar's men enter his holding cell, led by Hamid Gul (Jaaved Jaffrey), murdering all guards around them, with Zaffar then murdering Viren by shooting him and then burning him. As Zaffar escapes in a helicopter waiting on the roof, he puts a $5 million reward for someone to steal the Koh-i-Noor diamond from the Tower of London, but with one condition – the thief must be Indian, to hold up a new extradition treaty between India and UK. Soon after, a man named Rajveer Nanda (Hrithik Roshan) steals it, and when Zaffar's men are informed of the theft, they travel to Rajveer for the deal. Although they initially travel with the $5 million reward, Rajveer informs them that he now wants $20 million for the deal. Following the disdain of the comment made by Rajveer, a fight breaks out between Rajveer and Zaffar's men after which Rajveer flies away. After Rajveer escapes, a CCTV footage of him is captured, showing that he is in Shimla. Following Rajveer's escape, he sees Harleen (Katrina Kaif) sitting in a restaurant, who is there waiting for her internet date, "Vickie", to show up. Rajveer enters the restaurant posing as "Vickie" and woos her over. He convinces Harleen to use the bathroom and whilst she is in there, Rajveer fights the remaining men and leaves the restaurant, much to the dismay of Harleen. As she drives home, Harleen accidentally runs over Rajveer, who asks her to stitch up a gunshot wound sustained during the fight. Rajveer then gives Harleen drugged water, with her complying with what he says about the government officials, informing her about where to find guns underneath car seats and what they will say about him.

Lootera is inspired by O. Henry's The Last Leaf. In the picturesque town of Manikpur, West Bengal in 1953, a landlord goes to watch a Chhau dance with his daughter, Pakhi Roy Chaudhary (Sonakshi Sinha), an aspiring writer. In the year 1990, Iqbal Haroon Khan (Jackie Shroff) runs The Great Indian Circus in Chicago, which has fallen on bad times. Anderson's (Andrew Bicknell) bank — Western Bank of Chicago —, which has lent money to Iqbal Khan, decides to close down the circus when Khan is unable to repay the loan. Young Sahir (Siddharth Nigam), the little son of Iqbal Khan, pleads with Anderson not to shut down his father's circus, as he and his father would soon be able to turn the corner. But Iqbal Khan's presentation before the bankers and Sahir's pleas don't help. Iqbal Khan commits suicide in front of the heartless Anderson, leaving Sahir devastated.

Meera (Diana Penty) is a shy and simple traditional girl who leaves her family in India to live in London with her new husband Kunal (Randeep Hooda). Ce film s'inspire de l'histoire vraie du meurtre de Jessica Lall, tuée d'une balle dans la tête en pleine soirée people à Delhi, le 29 avril 1999 pour la seule raison qu'elle refusa de servir un verre au fils d'un politicien. Malgré les 12 témoins, l'énergie de Sabrina, la sœur de Jessica pour obtenir justice et après 7 ans de procès, le meurtrier, Manu Sharma est acquitté. Les témoins qui étaient tout d'abord prêts à témoigner vont progressivement retourner leur veste et être incapables de reconnaitre Manu comme l'auteur du coup de feu. Cette injustice criante interpelle la presse et le Times of India titre alors en février 2006 "No One Killed Jessica". A la même époque, sort le film, Rang de Basanti (à voir aussi), qui appelle le citoyen à ne pas se laisser faire devant les puissants corrompus et encourage chacun, individuellement, à agir pour changer le système.

The story follows two friends and roommates. The Gujarati rebel Jignesh "Jerry" Patel (Akshay Kumar) and clean simpleton Nick Mathur (John Abraham), who live in London. Dimple Chaddha (Parineeti Chopra) is a spoilt brat and only daughter of Sandeep Chaddha, the creator of "Chaddha Industries", a huge property company in Delhi. Her boyfriend is Sunny Singh (Ranveer Singh), a fitness instructor at a local gym. While travelling with Dimple on his bike, he stops at an old bungalow and proceeds to break in to harass the residents. Sunny tells a confused Dimple that the bungalow he vandalised belongs to his family and it had been illegally encroached upon by the tenants. His grandfather, father and mother have all died recently due to the stress of fighting the court case to remove tenants. The government however as ruled in favour of the tenants and he has to pay thousands in property tax to avoid being arrested.
