Silverio Blasi (17 November 1921 - 27 April 1995) was an Italian television and stage director, actor and screenwriter.
Born in Rome, Blasi was co-founder, together with Giorgio De Lullo, Goliarda Sapienza and Mario Landi, of the avant-garge theater company "T. 45". After several collaborations with Anton Giulio Bragaglia, in 1954 Blasi started a long collaboration with RAI, for which he write and directed a large number of miniseries and television films.
Blasi was also an occasional film actor, mostly cast in character roles in art films.

Cristóbal Bedoya, a medical doctor, returns to his hometown, a small Colombian city in the banks of the Magdalena river, after being away for twenty seven years. Carlo Levi was a painter and writer, but he also had a degree in medicine. Arrested in 1935 by Mussolini's regime for his anti-Fascist activities, he was sent to live in a remote town in southern Italy, in the region of Lucania which is known today as Basilicata. The landscape was beautiful, the peasantry poor and neglected. Since the local doctors were not interested in peasants and not trusted by them, he began to help them.

The film starts with the murder of District Attorney Vargas in Palermo, amongst a climate of demonstrations, strikes and political tension between the Left and the government. The subsequent investigation failing, the police assign the protagonist Inspector Rogas (Lino Ventura) to solve the case. While he is starting his investigation, two judges are killed. All victims turn out to have worked together on several cases. After Rogas discovers evidence of corruption surrounding the three government officials, he is encouraged by superiors "not to forage after gossip," but to trail the "crazy lunatic who for no reason whatever is going about murdering judges." This near admission of guilt drives Rogas to seek out three men wrongfully convicted by the murdered judges. He is joined by a journalist friend working for a far-left newspaper, Cusan.
