Stephan Rosti (Arabic: إستفان روستي) (16 November 1891 – 22 May 1964) was an Egyptian actor and film director who lived and worked in Egypt.
Jeune adulte, Stephan Rosti partit en Autriche pour chercher sans succès à obtenir la reconnaissance de paternité de son père. Il dansa et fit des petits boulots en Autriche, Allemagne et France, puis Stephan Rosti se lia d'amitié avec deux cinéastes égyptiens, Mohammed Karim et Sirag Mounir, qui l'encouragèrent à rentrer en Égypte pour travailler dans le cinéma, notamment à cause de sa maîtrise de l'arabe égyptien. Il y suivit des cours dans une école de cinéma du Caire et accepta d'être en 1927 acteur dans le premier long métrage égyptien, Laila.

La mère de Stephan Rosti était une danseuse italiano-égyptienne qui travaillait en Égypte quand elle rencontra le père de Stephan Rosti, qui était l'ambassadeur de l'Autriche-Hongrie au Caire. Quand il fut temps pour le diplomate de rentrer au pays, sa femme ne voulut pas le suivre et resta en Égypte avec leur fils. Pour échapper aux tentatives du père de récupérer Stephan, elle s'établit à Alexandrie.Jeune adulte, Stephan Rosti partit en Autriche pour chercher sans succès à obtenir la reconnaissance de paternité de son père. Faten Hamama plays Sawsan, a middle-class orphan who meets Adel (Omar Sharif), a rich man, at an auction hall. He tries to approach her but she refuses him. As a result, he eventually marries her. His playboy friends, Shafeek and Malak (among others), feel uncomfortable with Sawsan being around, as she condemns the style of life that they lead, and therefore Adel orders her to stay at home. While staying alone at home, Sawsan works on some land Adel owns, with the help of one of Adel's old friends, Mustafa (Omar El-Hariri). Adel's playboy friends try to destroy Adel's marriage by telling him that Sawsan is having an affair with his friend, Mustafa. Adel's friends try to exploit Adel for his fortunes and convince him to sell his land. Mustafa talks to Adel and convinces him not to sell his land to his exploiter friends. Adel realizes his mistake, expels his friends, and returns to his wife.

Au Caire, Asfour (Farid El Atrache) est chanteur dans un théâtre. Il est amoureux de sa partenaire la danseuse Aliya, elle-même fille du directeur du théâtre et sur le point d'épouser l'homme d'affaires Mimi Bey qui leur apporte une dot importante. À cause d'un quiproquo, Asfour se croit aimé d'Aliya et entreprend de demander sa main à son père. Ce dernier prend la demande en considération, mais à la condition qu'Asfour offre une dot plus élevée. Comme ce dernier est sans le sou, la demande échoue. Alors qu'Asfour désespéré se lamente dans un jardin, il fait la rencontre d'un vieil homme à l'air bienveillant, personnage mystérieux qui lui apparait parfois brièvement. L'apparition lui donne rendez-vous dans une grotte le soir même. Accompagné de son alter ego Bou'ou, personnage à la fois énergique et gaffeur, Asfour va au rendez-vous où l'homme lui remet un objet qui pourra lui donner le bonheur à la condition qu'il en fasse bon usage : c'est une lampe magique dont sort une séduisante ifrit, Kahramana (Samia Gamal). Celle-ci, invisible pour tout autre que lui, le confond avec son amour, le démon Astaroth, dont Asfour a joué le rôle.

Amal (Faten Hamama) is the wife of Ahmed (Ahmed Mazhar) who manages a textile factory. One day, she receives a threatening letter directed at Ahmed. The letter reveals that Ahmed committed a murder; he killed a teller to steal the factory's money. Amal remembers that her husband had come to her telling her that he had lost his money, and weeks later had restored his money. One of the factory workers (Salah Mansour) meets Amal and confirms what the letter said, claiming that he witnessed the crime.
