Terry Hayes est un scénariste, romancier et producteur anglo-australien, né le 8 octobre 1951, dans le Sussex, en Angleterre.
À vingt et un ans, il est correspondant pour la presse australienne en Amérique du Nord, et est basé à New York. Deux ans après, il retourne à Sydney et y travaille comme journaliste d'investigation, journaliste politique et chroniqueur.
Après plusieurs années en journalisme, il rencontre le réalisateur de cinéma australien George Miller avec qui il collabore à la novélisation du scénario de Mad Max. Miller embauche ensuite Hayes pour écrire avec lui le scénario de Mad Max 2 (1981). Hayes, qui devient ensuite scénariste et producteur pour le cinéma et la télévision, s'installe à Hollywood. Il signe, en 1989, les scénarios de Calme blanc (Dead Calm), adapté d'un roman éponyme de Charles Williams, et de From Hell (2001). Il est également scénariste et producteur de la mini-série télévisée Bangkok Hilton (1989), mettant en vedette Nicole Kidman.
Hayes, qui remporte plus de vingt récompenses en carrière, publie en 2013 son premier roman, le thriller Je suis Pilgrim (I am Pilgrim), rapidement devenu un best-seller international.

In 1888, Mary Kelly (Heather Graham) and her small group of London prostitutes trudge through unrelenting daily misery. While climbing in Monument Valley, siblings Peter (O'Donnell) and Annie Garrett (Tunney) lose their father, Royce (Stuart Wilson). After two falling amateurs leave the family dangling, Royce forces Peter to cut him loose to save Peter and his sister. Three years later during an wildlife shooting at lower Himalayans in Pakistan, Peter's assistant falls and injures his leg. Peter is dropped off at K2 base camp and searches for Annie who is planning a summit attempt on K2, the world's second highest and most dangerous mountain, due to unpredictable weather conditions and difficult technical climbing sections. The expedition is funded by wealthy industrialist Elliot Vaughn (Paxton) who is also part of Annie's expedition, with the help of renowned climber Tom McLaren (Nicholas Lea).

In a filthy kitchen of an underground abortionist, an unkempt former medical doctor puts on surgical gloves and quickly downs a full glass of cheap whiskey. Face down on the kitchen table is a barely conscious Porter (Mel Gibson), severely wounded with two large bullet wounds in his back. Fifteen years after defeating Lord Humungus, Max Rockatansky crosses the Australian desert in a camel-drawn wagon when he is attacked by a pilot named Jedediah and his son in a Transavia PL-12 Airtruk, stealing his wagon and belongings.
