The plot is set up in the late 16th Century revolves around two friends - Puttan Sethupathi and Veerabhupathi. Sethupathi hailing from a royal family falls in love with Meenakshi, an ordinary girl, while Veerabhupathi loves Ekaveera, a young lady from the royal clan in Amba Samudram. However, due to the societal restrictions the dreams of both the couples meet a dead end.

The plot is based on the story of Disciples (Sishya) of Paramanandayya, seven saints in number. They are actually the disciples of Aruna Keerti Mahamuni. Chitralekha (K.R. Vijaya) dances in the court of Lord Siva (Sobhan Babu). He gives her a Rudraksha mala to wear during the visits. Later, she visits the beautiful Earth with her companions and enjoys bathing in a pool. She finds these Sishiyas keenly looking at her and curses them to become idiots. After knowing the facts from Guruji and realizing her mistake, she pronounces the vimukti (free from curse) at the time of her marriage. The Guru, Aruna Keerti, in return curses Chitralekha that she will lose her celestial status if she comes into contact with a human.

Lecturer Prasad (N T Ramarao) and Seeta (First Savitri) are a happily married couple. They have a son Madhu (Master Murali). Seeta looks after her parents-in-law very affectionately. She also takes care of every family affair meticulously. She comes to know that her father Seshaiah (Perumallu) is sick and starts home by train. The train meets with an accident. The family members come to know that Seeta is alive and rejoice. She reaches home, but is unable to identify any of them. Seshaiah leaves his entire property in the name of Seeta and dies. Dr. Rukminamma is called for consultation. She identifies that the lady in the family is not Seeta. Meanwhile, Prasad comes to know that Seeta died in the accident. The lady in their house is found to be Lalitha (Savitri) and arranges her marriage with her lover (Vallam). But he refuses with suspicion. Seeta's relative Jagannadham (Rajanala) kidnaps Lalitha for the property, but saved by Prasad. Taking into account the affection shown on her by the family, Lalitha decides to continue the relationship to replace Seeta and gets married to Prasad.

Subhadra (the sister of Balarama and Krishna) marries a Pandava named Arjuna, and their son Abhimanyu falls in love with Balarama's daughter, Sasirekha. The families decide to marry them when they reach adulthood. By the time Abhimanyu and Sasirekha grow up, the Pandavas have lost a dice game to the Kauravas due to Sakuni's manipulation. Krishna, furious at an action of Dussasana that has insulted Draupadi, saves Draupadi. Balarama teaches the Kauravas a lesson and later reaches Hastinapuram. Sakuni and Duryodhana respect Balarama; after manipulating him, they seek his favour by requesting that Sasirekha be married to Duryodhana's son Lakshmana Kumara. They intend to force Balarama and Krishna to support them if the Pandavas wage war after their fourteen-year exile. Unaware of this, Balarama accepts.

Maharajah of Malava Kingdom was killed. The kingdom is ruled by his younger brother Rudrasimha (S. V. Ranga Rao). The son heirs the kingdom is Jayasimha (N. T. Rama Rao). Vijayasimha (Kanta Rao) is son of Rudrasimha. Rudrasimha tried to kill Jayasimha twice and to occupy the kingdom completely. Knowing about this, Jayasimha overnight ran away from the kingdom. Maharajah of neibouring kingdom was arrested by the enemies and escapes with his daughter. Jayasimha saves the Princess (Waheeda Rehman) and later releases Maharajah. They love each other. He lives in the house of valiant Ranadhir (Gummadi) with the name of Bhavani. Ranadhir has a son Subuddhi (Relangi) and a daughter Kalindi (Anjali Devi). Kalindi loves Jayasimha. Senadhipati (Rajanala) tries to control the Princess. Rudrasimha and Senadhipati jointly plan to arrest the Maharajah and Jayasimha. After knowing Jayasimha considers her as his sister, Kalindi dies in attempting to save Jayasimha. Jayasimha with the help of Vijayasimha exterminates the enemies. Rudrasimha, the traitor is killed by his son Vijayasimha. Jayasimha becomes the Maharajah and rules both the kingdoms.
