The story follows Mansukh (Himesh Reshammiya), the son of a marriage bureau owner Champak Lal (Manoj Joshi (actor)). Since he has grown up, Mansukh tries to help his father in the business, however all the alliances he had tried to get done have resulted in separation even before the marriage took place. To prove his worth to his father, he takes up an unusual challenge of getting an underworld don Tatya Tukaram Tendulkar's (Mithun Chakraborty), spoilt brat sister Indu (Asin Thottumkal) getting married to a cop called Bahattar Singh (Akshay Kumar) aka Khiladi 786 in Punjab. He convinces Tatya to pretend to be a cop to make Bahattar agree to the marriage. But little did the over enthusiast Mansukh know that Bahattar Singh, along with his father Sattar Singh (Raj Babbar) and his uncle Ikhattar Singh (Mukesh Rishi) were not cops but a family of conmen. The story takes a shape as the two hardcore families pretend to be policemen in front of each other and the beans from each side can be spilled anytime which can be life threatening for Mansukh. And to make the situation worse, it turns out that Indu has a boyfriend, Azad (Rahul Singh), who is a criminal locked up in jail. When Bahattar finds out, he helps Azad escape from jail to make Indu happy. But no sooner does Indu realize that she truly loves Bahattar.

Breakaway, or Speedy Singhs (the Hindi version of the movie), is the story of Rajveer Singh (Vinay Virmani), a young and dedicated teenager who gave up college half-way through due to his lack of interest, one of the many conflicts between him and his father Darvesh. Rajveer and Darvesh had never gotten along; though the family is Sikh, due to a childhood incident, Rajveer has taken his turban off since a very small age. Rajveer still meets up with his Sikh friends, and when they get the time, they play hockey as a hobby. One day, while practising hockey, a few players on the Hammerheads insult the Singhs, and Rajveer and his friends beat the other players at hockey. The film revolves around a struggling road constructor, Sachin Tichkule (Akshay Kumar). He dreams big, but there seems to be no chance of his dreams coming true as he doesn't have any money to bribe the bureaucracy. His family have lost faith in him, telling him to earn money. To make matters worse, the new Municipal Commissioner turns out to be his former girlfriend, Gehna Ganpule (Trisha Krishnan), who now hates him. His brothers-in-law Trigun (Manoj Joshi), Suhas Vichare (Milind Gunaji), and his elder brother (Paritosh Sand) were all responsible for a bridge collapsing case in which many people were killed. They were helped by a politician named Sanjay Rana (Jaideep Ahlawat). After being saved by their driver Vishwas Rao, (Tinu Anand) they kill him fearing he would reveal the truth. Meanwhile Sanjay's lustful eyes fall on Sachin's sister Anjali (Urvashi Sharma). Sachin warns him by slapping him in his office. Meanwhile Azad Bhagat (Makrand Deshpande) wants justice as his family were killed in that accident. Anjali is married to Sanjay, unbeknownst to Sachin, when he confronts his father he reprimands him, saying he has no right to say he didn't know anything because he has no money to send his sister off. After losing contact, he learns she has been attempting to contact him and goes to their house, seeing Azad escape from Sanjay's house. He then learns of Anjali's death because a cooker exploded. Devastating the whole family, especially Sachin himself, who is suspicious. He then meets Azad again at the municipal office, he learns of Azad's intentions and that he had stolen evidence which would put the people involved, behind bars. They both then agree to help each other to reveal the corruptness behind the construction of the bridge. Sanjay hires masked robbers, who kill Azad, who was on his way to court. At the hospital, while Azad is dying in Sachin's arms, he reveals that while he was stealing the evidence, he saw Sachin's sister being raped by Sanjay and his friends, now speculating whether she was murdered or if she committed suicide. In an attempt to make sure the evidence isn't revealed, Sanjay steals it after robbing Azad's house, a fight ensues between Sanjay and Sachin, Sanjay is then killed after being run over and Sachin successfully retrieves the evidence. Sachin's brother and brothers-in-law are arrested, and the whole family begin belittling him, claiming he was jealous of them and unlike his successful brothers, and blaming him for tarnishing the family name. Sachin then argues back that, they didn't lose anyone and he had to deal with the pain of losing Anjali the most. He agrees to leave, until his father stops him and realises his honesty and trustworthiness, re-kindling their relationship.

Lakhan Singh (Sonu Sood), a.k.a. Lucky, is the "king of the Australian underworld". He is accompanied by his Sikh mafia associates, Julie (Neha Dhupia), Mika (Jaaved Jaffrey), Pankaj Udaas (Yashpal Sharma), Raftaar (Sudhanshu Pandey), Dilbaugh Singh (Manoj Pahwa) and Guruji Gurbaksh Singh (Kamal Chopra). In a small village in Punjab, the birthplace of Lucky, lives another Sikh- Happy Singh (Akshay Kumar). Happy, though good at heart has unintentionally caused many problems in the village, and the villagers are fed up with him. They decide to send Happy on a long trip to Australia with his friend Rangeela (Om Puri) to bring Lucky back to Punjab, which will keep Happy out of the village for some time and bring peace to the village.
