Marfilmes a récemment considérablement enrichi son fonds de films classiques africains grâce à sa coopération avec l’African Film Library. Une restauration de qualité à partir des négatifs originaux lui permet de proposer de titres rares et précieux de différentes origines et langues de ce continent, tout en gardant un lien particulier avec la production portugaise.

African slaves were first brought to Cape Verde by Portuguese settlers in 1462. These slaves brought with them the cultural rhythm and music which would become Batuque: a musical form punctuated by drums while participants danced in a circle. The dance, repressed during the Colonial era, has been adopted as a symbol of the Cape Verdan cultural identity. The film seeks to document the dance form through interviews and performance by the musical group Raiz di Tambarina.

Rosa, a Mozambican peasant, is accused by the family of her husband of having caused his suicide by refusing to obey him. She is suspected of having a "spirit-husband". In order to prove her innocence, Rosa submits herself to two trials: one by a traditional healer, the other in court. She is absolved twice. Nevertheless, the dead man relatives continue to persecute her and she is punished in a cruel way.

Il est considéré comme une véritable icône de l’histoire africaine.
