Tempean Films were a British film production company formed in 1948 by Robert Baker and Monty Berman. Tempean's output of B movies were distributed by Eros Films. The company later moved into television, adapting Leslie Charteris' series of The Saint novels, starring Roger Moore.

The company produced several of its features at Southall Studios in Middlesex including both The Trollenberg Terror television series in 1956 and the film version in 1958, which was Southall Studio's final production.

In 1828 Edinburgh, Scotland, Dr. Knox (Peter Cushing) is a highly skilled anatomist who draws large crowds of medical students to his lectures on the human body. Though he is constantly at odds with his stuffy, backwards colleagues, he is highly venerated by his students and believes his duty is to push the medical profession forward. Unfortunately, due to the laws of the time very few cadavers are legally available to the medical profession, necessitating the use of graverobbers or "Resurrection men" to procure additional specimens. Dr. Knox's assistant Dr. Mitchell (Dermot Walsh) and a young student named Jackson (John Cairney) and are given the task of buying the bodies, which are worth a small fortune... especially when fresh.

In 1888, Jack the Ripper is on his killing spree. Scotland Yard Inspector O'Neill (Byrne) welcomes a visit from his old friend New York City detective Sam Lowry (Patterson) who agrees to assist with the investigation. Sam becomes attracted to modern woman Anne Ford (McDowall) but her guardian, Dr. Tranter (Le Mesurier) doesn't approve. The police slowly close in the killer as the public becomes more alarmed. The killer's identity is revealed and he meets a ghastly end.

Alan Curtis (Kennedy), an American real estate agent living in England is dissatisfied with what he believes to be his humdrum life. One weekend while his wife Elizabeth (Shelton) is on a lengthy vacation visiting her mother, he gives a ride to sultry nightclubsinger Lila (Smith) when he finds her stranded on the road. When Curtis gets romantically involved with her Lila tells him that her brother has gotten in trouble over a jewel robbery. In truth, Lila desperately wants the stones for herself. She tricks the wayward Curtis into believing that he killed a man after he buys them two tickets out of the country. He then decides that it is better to face the music, and opts to stay and confess. Lila, too reconsiders, and decides to stay with him until his name is cleared. After the true killers are revealed Lila goes to jail as a participant in the robbery and Curtis returns to his wife, who forgives him.

Junk dealer Roselli's dreams for his son Julius are disappointed when the young man is thrown out of Oxford after poor grades. The boy then gets involved with a gang of Camden Town jewel thieves for whom his father is secretly the fence, and when they attempt to rob a warehouse, Julius is injured in the getaway but continues his involvement. The gang next plan a raid on a jeweller’s in Hatton Garden and also plan to cut out Roselli. The old man tips off the police – unaware that his son is a member of the gang.

An engineer Christopher Pelly (Maxwell Reed), loses his eyesight in an accident. He goes to London to have an eye operation. There he wants to go to his friends house but the taxi driver dropped him at the wrong house in Kensington. In the house three men had murdered a person with a knife and the corpse was lying on the floor. Pelly doesn't know that he is in the wrong house, and seeing that he is blind, the three murderers don't kill him. Pelly reported the incident to the police but the police were unable to find the dead body. When Pelly regains his eyesight after the operation he decides to solve the murder mystery.
