A Barefoot Dream (Hangul: 맨발의 꿈; RR: Maenbalui Kkum) is a 2010 drama film co-production between South Korea and Japan directed by Kim Tae-kyun. It is based on the true story of Kim Shin-hwan, a retired Korean footballer who goes to East Timor after his business fails and launches a youth football team, thus becoming the "Hiddink of Korea." The film was selected as the South Korean entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 83rd Academy Awards but it did not make the final shortlist. The film recorded 332,699 admissions during its theatrical run in South Korea.

Synopsis

Kim Won-kang (Park Hee-soon) is a former soccer prospect whose life did not turn out quite as he had hoped. He heads to East Timor, where he thinks there will be plenty of opportunities for him. One day, he sees a group of street kids playing ball with bare feet. Thinking he can score by selling soccer shoes, he opens a sports equipment store, but realizes none of the kids can afford those fancy shoes or jerseys. Again, despaired, he is about to close up the store. Then, he decides to teach the kids how to play ball. Penniless and still without shoes, they decide to compete at the International Youth Soccer Championship in Japan.

Kim Gyeong-Su, jeune étudiant bêta et indiscipliné, est renvoyé pour la 9e fois de son lycée pour avoir usé de ses pouvoirs paranormaux contre un professeur. Alors que la Coupe du monde de football 1998 est disputée en France, Palden et Nyima, deux jeunes tibétains ayant fui leur pays arrivent dans un monastère bouddhiste au nord de l'Inde. Ils y reçoivent leur ordination à la vie monastique, mais celle-ci va rapidement laisser place à la passion du football. Palden se retrouve entraîné par Orgyen, son camarade de chambre, à regarder la nuit le match des quarts de finale dans le village voisin. Sur le chemin du retour, ils sont pris sur le fait par le geko, le maître de discipline du monastère, qui les punit. Avec l’approche de la finale, Orgyen réussit, non sans peine, à autoriser la diffusion de la finale de la Coupe du Monde au monastère. Ne possédant cependant pas de télévision, une course contre la montre commence afin de récolter assez d’argent pour en louer une. Après de nombreux obstacles, les résidents du monastère réussissent finalement par regarder la finale France-Brésil tous ensemble.

Eric Bishop is a football fanatic postman whose life is descending into crisis. Looking after his granddaughter is bringing him into contact with his ex-wife, Lily, whom he abandoned after the birth of their daughter. At the same time, his stepson Ryan is hiding a gun under the floorboards of his bedroom for a violent drugs baron. At his lowest moments Bishop considers suicide. But after a short meditation session with fellow postmen in his living room, and smoking cannabis stolen from his stepson, hallucinations bring forth his footballing hero, the famously philosophical Eric Cantona, who gives him advice. His relationship with Lily improves dramatically. Bishop finds the gun and confronts his stepson. Ryan admits to his involvement with the drugs gang, and Bishop attempts to return the gun to the gangster. He is forced to keep it himself, however, when a Rottweiler is set on him in his car. The gangster then posts footage on YouTube of Bishop's humiliation. The entire family is then arrested by the police on a tip-off but they fail to find the gun. Eric Cantona then advises Bishop to seek help from his friends and to 'surprise' himself. Bishop organises 'Operation Cantona', sneaking dozens of fellow Manchester United fans – wearing Cantona masks – into the gangster's house and humiliating him and his family, threatening to put the video of their operation onto YouTube, in turn. The film ends at Bishop's daughter's graduation day, where the family re-unites in peace.

In the run-up to an important football match police mount an operation to prevent trouble breaking out between rival fans. The operation is led by inspector Granowski and a young trainee, Philippon. En 1998, « l'Espoir Club Borretti », petit club des quartiers de Marseille, est menacé de dissolution. En effet, le manque d'adhérents et de moyens fait que la mairie projette d'implanter une piscine municipale en lieu et place du terrain de football. Mais les Borretti, père et fils, vont tout faire pour sauver leur club. Ainsi, avec l'aide d'un ami, José (Patrick Bosso), ils décident de monter une équipe pour participer à « la Mondialette », une compétition amateur organisée en même temps que la coupe du monde de football, et qui permettra au vainqueur de remporter la somme de 300 000 francs. Les trois amis vont tenter le plus rapidement possible de recruter des joueurs. Hélas pour eux, seuls des joueurs de piètre niveau et aux personnalités atypiques sont présents le jour du recrutement. Ils réalisent alors que, pour gagner la compétition, tous les coups devront être permis.
