A Bill of Divorcement is a 1922 British silent drama film based on Clemence Dane's play A Bill of Divorcement. The film was directed by Denison Clift and stars Constance Binney, Fay Compton and Malcolm Keen.

Synopsis

A bill provides that after a certain length of time the wife of a man incurably insane is entitled to a divorce. Meg Fairfield secures a divorce from her husband Hilary, and is about to marry Gray Meredith when Hilary returns cured. Sydney, daughter of Hilary and Meg, is engaged to Kit Pumphrey, son of the parish rector who refuses to permit his son to marry Sydney when he learns her mother is divorced. How Sydney sacrifices everything that her mother may find happiness and remains with her father completes the story.— The Film Daily, (October 15, 1922)

John, Comte de Woodstock mais désargenté, pense retrouver la fortune en pariant sur le boxeur Joe Lee dans un combat qui aura lieu au English National Sporting Club, et en faisant courir son cheval Lady Love dans le Derby d'Epsom. L'ennemi juré de Woodstock, le parieur Malet De Carteret, veut déjouer ces plans en poussant sa femme Olive à séduire Joe pour l'éloigner à la fois de son entraîneur et de sa fiancée Kitty Cavanagh. Comme le boxeur ne répond pas à ses charmes, elle le drogue. Woodstock prend sa place sur le ring et gagne contre le champion Crake, après un combat difficile. Pendant ce temps, les hommes de Carteret volent Lady Love, mais la sœur de Kitty, Norah, dont Woodstock est amoureux, arrive à reprendre le cheval. Puis, Carteret kidnappe le comte, mais Joe le délivre, et ils arrivent à temps sur le champ de courses pour voir Lady Love gagner. Redevenu riche, Woodstock épouse Norah, pendant que Joe se marie avec Kitty.

A lighthouse on a lonely coast of New Zealand is looked after by lighthouse keeper William Kell. Kell marries Eileen, a dancer in a cabaret, who winds up having an affair with Kell's assistant, Cass. Eileen then begins flirting with a stranger, Kingsley, an absconder who is rescued from the wreck of a motor launch.
