Synopsis
La famille Riggs, devenue riche grâce au pétrole de l'Oklahoma, déménage pour une propriété à Ossining (New York), voisine de celle de Stephen Van Courtlandt, un célibataire endurci. M Riggs, qui veut faire partie de la bonne société, voudrait que sa fille épouse Stephen. Alors que celui-ci est en train de pêcher, Chimmy le Cricket, qui vient de s'évader de Sing Sing le convainc d'échanger avec lui ses vêtements afin qu'il puisse échapper aux gardiens qui le poursuivent. Stephen, poursuivi à sa place, entre par la fenêtre dans la chambre de Barbara et celle-ci, excitée à l'idée de remettre un criminel dans le droit chemin, lui donne les vêtements du maître d'hôtel. Lorsque M Riggs entre, Stephen explique qui il est en réalité, mais elle dit qu'ils doivent annoncer leurs fiançailles immédiatement afin de protéger la réputation de Barbara, ce qu'ils font, bien que Barbara croie toujours que Stephen est un prisonnier en fuite. Après que Stephen est suspecté d'avoir volé les bijoux de M Riggs, Cricket aide Stephen à confondre le vrai voleur et Barbara et Stephen, qui sont tombés amoureux, se préparent au mariage.Actors

Dick Audaine, connu sous le surnom du "Lutin", est fiancé à Phyllis Ericson, qui en réalité aime Richard Carewe, le tuteur de Dick. Dick tombe amoureux de Kara Glynesk, qui n'en veut qu'à son argent. Les concierges d'un hôtel de New York près de Times Square refusent des chambres à divers clients jusqu'à ce qu'ils acceptent le millionnaire John Stonehouse et lui donnent la chambre 420. Alors qu'il tente de se suicider, John entend un coup de feu provenant d'une chambre voisine. Il y trouve Gilberte Bonheur penchée sur le corps d'Aaron Witt sur qui, dit-elle, elle a tiré lorsqu'il a essayé de l'attaquer. John, qui veut mourir de toute façon, offre d'endosser le crime. Il s'échappe après avoir pris une émeraude que Witt utilisait pour faire chanter Gilberte. John aide Gilberte à cacher Witt, avec la complicité des concierges. Ce dernier revient à lui et demande qu'on lui rende l'émeraude ou sa valeur. John lui fait un chèque et part, en emportant un billet de théâtre que lui a donné Gilberte.

Captain Ward is an old man living in a ship with his granddaughter Sally. Sally's mother died when Sally was born and never revealed the identity of her father. That is why Ward is overprotective of Sally, and he prays each day for the chance to slay the man who ruined his daughter and left a grandchild without a name. One day, Sally finds a three legged dog and sneaks him into the ship. He runs away, however, and Sally follows him to the mansion of Judge Gordon. There she meets Hugh Schuyler, the young friend of the judge. They fall in love, but Ward chases him away. The judge is struck by how much Sally looks like the woman to whom he was once married. When the judge visits the captain, he tells him he doubts he is Sally's father. Ward becomes angry and tries to kill him and Sally, interfering, is struck by a blow and knocked unconscious. When she awakes, Sally finds out that Judge Gordon is actually her father, having been secretly married to her mother. She accepts a marriage proposal from Hugh and elopes with him as they happily sail away along with the captain and judge.

As described in a film magazine, Roberta Lee (Minter), interested in uplift work, induces her father Thomas Lee (Periolat) to take on Bill Dorgan (Humphrey), a convict, as a gardener. Bill steels Roberta's jewelry the night she leaves on a vacation on a ranch, and he hides in the country not far from the ranch. Roberta meets Richard Van Stone (Forrest) and they become mutually attracted. Richard gives Roberta a broach that he had bought from Bill. When Roberta recognizes it as being hers and believes Richard guilty of the theft, she turns him over to the sheriff. Bill is later captured and Richard is released. Roberta learns that Richard is her father's new general manager, and she goes to tell him that she and Richard are engaged.

Burton Grant exposes politician Jarvis McVey as a crook in a newspaper and is run out of town. He asks his daughter Sylvia to turn his job over to editor Frank Summers. Sylvia inherited her father's talents and decides to fire Frank and take over the newspaper herself. Meanwhile, Frank finds out McVey is involved in a scheme concerning the city franchise. When Sylvia is informed, she publishes the news. À la recherche d'excitation, Gregory Thorne et Marta Millbanke décident de renoncer à un mariage conventionnel et de s'enfuir ensemble mais, lorsque les hommes que Gregory a engagés pour enlever Marta rencontrent dans le noir un groupe d'espions allemands, Marta dans la confusion est enlevée par les espions. Gregory suit les Allemands jusqu'à leur cachette, mais lui aussi est fait prisonnier. Lorsque les espions, conduits par le comte Hilgar Eckstrom, menacent de faire sauter l'usine de bateaux du père de Gregory à moins qu'il ne cesse de ravitailler les alliés, Gregory se libère et délivre Marta, appelle la police et se rue à l'usine. Dans l'entrepôt, Gregory ordonne à Eckstrom de déconnecter la minuterie de la bombe et, au dernier moment, l'espion révèle l'emplacement de la bombe. Ayant eu leur lot d'excitation, Gregory et Marta organisent un mariage tranquille.
