Brooks (William Norton Bailey), a publisher and his publicist (Lee Moran) decide to boost the sales of a wartime book of flying experiences. They credit the book to popular author Robert Street (Edward Everett Horton), who is completely ignorant about aviation. Robert gets into all sorts of trouble in attempting to carry on the ruse, saving his friend's business but also attracting the attention of aviation-mad Grace Douglas (Patsy Ruth Miller). At first, he is able to carry out simple publicity events, but when he accidentally starts up an aircraft, his incredible aerobatics end with a landing in a haystack. When a race is staged between him and French ace Major Jules Gaillard (Armand Kaliz), it ends with Robert confessing he is no pilot, but still winning Grace's heart., 1h18

In 1895, champion horse racer and livery stable owner Hank Armstrong (Russell Simpson) is greatly disturbed by the advent of the "horseless carriage" in Maple City. He mocks Elmer Hays, a car manufacturer, when he states in a public lecture that the days of the horse are numbered and that a car will one day go 30 miles an hour. However, Armstrong's efforts are in vain. He quarrels with his friends when they start purchasing the machines and is only stopped from horsewhipping his own car-mad son Bob (Charles Emmett Mack) by the timely appearance of Bob's girlfriend Rose Robbins (Patsy Ruth Miller)., 1h35

Mike Howell (Jesse Eisenberg) is a stoner who lives in the sleepy town of Liman, West Virginia, where he works as a convenience store clerk, and is planning to propose to his longtime girlfriend, Phoebe Larson (Kristen Stewart), but constantly fails to find the right moment. He is psychologically unable to leave Liman, suffering inexplicable panic attacks whenever he tries, most recently when he planned to take Phoebe to Hawaii to propose. Meanwhile, in Langley, Virginia, CIA agent Victoria Lasseter (Connie Britton) learns that her unsuccessful Ultra program's sole survivor is to be eliminated by her rival, Adrian Yates (Topher Grace). His Tough Guy project succeeded where hers failed, and he has ordered the death of the remaining Ultra asset, Mike, by deploying his Tough Guy agents. Feeling that she has a duty to protect Mike, who she says is just a human being trying to live his life, Lasseter travels to Liman and "activates" Mike through a series of code words. Because of his excessive drug use, Mike fails to understand their significance, and she leaves in resigned frustration., 1h

Wally and Ray are cousins intent upon getting the fortune of their Scots grandad, an aviation nut. They become mixed-up with the U. S. flying corps and are wafted over the enemy lines in a runaway balloon. Through misunderstanding they are honored as heroes of the enemy forces, and sent back to the U.S. lines to spy. Here they are captured and almost shot, but everything ends happily.
