Synopsis

Abandonné par sa mère, rejeté par les autres enfants, le jeune Do-nyeom ne cesse d'espérer le retour de sa mère. Se nouant d'amitié avec la petite Soo-Yeon, elle sera le seul point commun avec une enfance normale.

The film is set in the Buddhist town of Sariput in the deserts of Central Asia, around 200 B.C., when the town is struck by a devastating sandstorm that leaves behind only four survivors: two monks, and two children taking refuge in the monastery. Twenty years later, the monks have aged, while the boy (Nitish Bhardwaj) and the girl (Pallavi Joshi) have grown and fall in love. Alors que la Coupe du monde de football 1998 est disputée en France, Palden et Nyima, deux jeunes tibétains ayant fui leur pays arrivent dans un monastère bouddhiste au nord de l'Inde. Ils y reçoivent leur ordination à la vie monastique, mais celle-ci va rapidement laisser place à la passion du football. Avec l’approche de la finale, Orgyen réussit, non sans peine, à autoriser la diffusion de la finale de la Coupe du Monde au monastère. Ne possédant cependant pas de télévision, une course contre la montre commence afin de récolter assez d’argent pour en louer une. Après de nombreux obstacles, les résidents du monastère réussissent finalement par regarder la finale France-Brésil tous ensemble.
