Choi Hyeon is a Northeast Asian Studies professor at Peking University who returns to his homeland Korea after a long absence to attend the funeral of an old friend. While talking over drinks, Hyeon is suddenly reminded of an erotic painting (called chunhwa) which he and his deceased friend had seen in a traditional tea shop in Gyeongju, during a trip seven years ago to that famed historical city in North Gyeongsang Province which was the ancient capital of the Silla Dynasty. The next day Hyeon makes an impulsive decision to head to Gyeongju. Full of expectation, he searches the Arisol café (Arisol means "beautiful green pine tree") only to find that the painting is no longer there, but he meets the café's beautiful and mysterious new owner Gong Yoon-hee. Hyeon spends the next 24 hours wandering around the city and tracing back his memories, and he experiences a series of unexpected, yet enjoyable encounters during his aimless journey.

Independent and aggressive, Bok-soon is known around the neighborhood as a "psycho bitch" because of her weird behavior. She is "slow" and not very smart due to a developmental disability, but is nonetheless a brave young woman with a happy inner world. Eun-yeong is a young woman who finds her beauty to be a curse, drawing unwanted attention from all kinds of men and making other women jealous. On his wedding anniversary, Han Chul-min (Jang Hyuk) drives into his apartment complex parking lot and sees a large crowd gathered by the entryway into his apartment. He enters holding a bouquet of flowers for his wife, instead he finds police officers scattered about collecting evidence. The film begins with two children Nam-yi and Ja-in being chased by King Injo's guards and saved by their father Choi Pyeong-ryung, an officer of King Gwanghae and a skilled archer. He sends his own children to find a place of refuge with his best friend Kim Mu-seon. As they escape crying, Ja-in begs her brother to go back to their father but their father is killed in front of Nam-yi. Nam-yi, though bitten by the guard dogs, kills them and escapes with Ja-in. Nam-yi becomes the only family Ja-in has. 13 years later Nam-yi (Park Hae-il) is now a skilled archer and hunter. He learns from Mu-seon's son Seo-goon (Kim Mu-yeol) that he and Ja-in (Moon Chae-won) plan to get married, with the approval of Mu-seon who is also Ja-in's godfather.
