Synopsis
Shriram (Rajiv Krishna) is the son of 'Pepsi' Parasuram (Vijayakumar) and the younger brother of Raghu (Raguvaran). Raghu is married to Bhanupriya and has a son. While Raghu is a model son, Shriram is considered a wastrel. Shriram falls in love with Janaki (Sulekha), the daughter of a Brahmin cook (Delhi Ganesh). Parasuram opposes the match because of the difference in their status.Actors

Sriram (Jagapati Babu) is the son of 'Pepsi' Parasuram (Vijayakumar) always enjoys his life and his father fell's him useless fellow. Raghuram (Raghuvaran) his elder brother is their father's favourite son. Raghuram is married to Rajeswari (Jayasudha) and has a son Ajay. Shriram falls in love with Janaki (Sanghavi), the daughter of a cook Rama Rao (Chandra Mohan). Parasuram opposes the match because of the difference in their status. Meanwhile, Raghu's college sweetheart, Gita (Bhanupriya) is dying and she wants to spend her last days with him. She contacts him after five years and they begin meeting secretly. Shriram finds out about this and tries to keep the family secrets, take the blame for everyone's shortcomings and becomes the family scapegoat and his father's favorite whipping boy. The rest of the film examines whether or not Raghu is finally vindicated in the eyes of his family.

The film opens with the birth of Baba (Rajinikanth), who is a 'baba amsa sambhootudu'. Baba grows up as an atheist, hot-blooded man but a Good Samaritan. His life style includes consuming alcohol, smoking substances, chewing tobacco. His mother (Sujatha) and his maternal uncle (M. N. Nambiar) are ardent devotees of Mahavatar Babaji (the Baba who is supposed to be of 2000 years old and who live in Himalayas). Sakthi (R. Sarathkumar) and his best-friend Thangamani (Goundamani) are taxi-drivers in Mumbai. Sakthi fights for the Tamil community against the local rowdies who want to expel them from their area. The Tamil association of Mumbai prepares the 25th anniversary function so the association's presidents invite the pillars of the association but only one person doesn't respond for the invitation : Karpagavalli, the wife of the late founder Sandanapandian. The presidents go to Karpagavalli's village Pasumpon to invite her but they are driven out from the village. In fact, Karpagavalli (Srividya) and her relatives (Sivaranjani, Kavitha and Kokila) are held prisoners by the heartless Duraipandi (Raghuvaran) in his palace. Under pressure, Duraipandi finally lets Karpagavalli go to the function in Mumbai. In the meantime, the police officers force the Tamil community to leave their place but they refuse. So the police officers kidnap and rape the young girls under the influence of Amara Settu (K. Rajpreeth). Sakthi turns berserk, he kills all the police officers and the main antagonist Amara Settu who created conflicts between the Tamil people and Hindi people. Therefore, Sakthi becomes a hero for the community and they ask him to flee instead of surrendering. By chance, Sakthi and Thangamani take the same train as Karpagavalli. Karpagavalli asks them to come to her village and she compels Sakthi to become the palace's protector. Later, Sakthi and Thangamani try to leave the village but Karpagavalli stops them. In the process, Karpagavalli was heavily wounded by Duraipandi's henchmen.

A college principal Janardan Rao (Vijay Kumar), keen to inculcate discipline in the students, gets his one time student and protégé Rajkumar (Chiranjeevi) posted as Telugu lecturer there. The ideal lecturer that he is, Rajkumar mingles with the students and becomes a comrade in arms and fools around with them in order to control them. One of his students Kanchana (Sakshi Sivanand) falls in love with him and asks him to marry her. He refuses her politely, saying that she will rescind her proposal if she knows his past and the flashback follows. During his student days in Delhi, Rajkumar falls in love with Preeti (Roshni), his guardian angel Janardan Rao's daughter. Vikram (Sathya Prakash) also loves her. When Preeti turns down his overtures, Vikram kills her in rage. Rajkumar in turn kills Vikram and goes to jail for five years. After serving the jail term now he has come back as a lecturer.

This film depicts the disputes between two forms of the dance styles and music, Classical Indian (in particular Carnatic music and Bharathanatyam danceform) against rural Tamil folk music and dance. G.K Rayudu (Kamal Haasan) is a corrupt Mayor and along with his assistant Charan Raj takes bribe and sells a market to a rich businessman and forces the poor people doing business in the land to move out threatening physical harm. Although Rayudu is married (to Srividya), he has a mistress. Rayudu comes to find out that his assistant and his mistress are married and has been cheating him out of his money for a long time.
