Acquitted is a 1916 silent film produced by the Fine Arts Films Company and distributed by Triangle Film Corporation. Paul Powell directed and Tod Browning is uncredited as one of the writers. This film is possibly Bessie Love's film debut. A lost motion picture.

Synopsis

La veille de Pâques, John Carter, un employé d'une compagnie d'assurances, rentre chez lui, dans son cottage de banlieue où il vit avec sa femme et ses deux filles. Les Carter ont une vie heureuse jusqu'à ce que le caissier Charles Ryder soit assassiné par le gardien de nuit, un cocaïnomane en manque d'argent, et que Carter soit accusé car il travaillait avec Ryder ce soir-là. Durant l'interrogatoire très musclé de la police, Carter agit comme un coupable, mais un reporter, Ned Fowler, amoureux d'Helen, une des filles de Carter, intervient. Après que le gardien, arrêté pour s'être battu et en manque, s'est confessé, Carter est relâché, mais le président le la compagnie d'assurances Ira Wolcott ne veut pas le réintégrer à cause de sa "notoriété".

As described in a film magazine review, two children who want to become circus performers run away from home. The mother of the girl is ill and has been sent to the hospital, while the father of the boy is a junk dealer. The finally arrive at the circus of Colonel Simmonds (Richardson) and obtain employment. When Janet Magie (Love) falls from a horse, Simmonds learns that she is actually his daughter and through her is able to contact his wife, who had left him due to a misunderstanding.
